Abstract:
In accordance with exemplary embodiments, a multi-cell motor compartment rail system is provided for a vehicle. The system comprises an inner rail member and an outer rail member. Partition members couple to the inner rail member and outer rail member and are configured to form multiple cells within the engine compartment rail system when the inner rail member and outer rail member are coupled together. In accordance with exemplary embodiments, a method for forming a multi-cell motor compartment rail is also provided. The method comprises coupling a first partition member to an inner rail member of an engine compartment rail system and coupling a second partition member to an outer rail member of an engine compartment rail system. Next, the inner rail member and the outer rail member are coupled together to form the multi-cell motor compartment rail.

Impact Deflector For Vehicle Frame

View page
US Patent:
8398153, Mar 19, 2013
Filed:
Nov 3, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/288793
Inventors:
Bhushan W. Dandekar - Rochester Hills MI, US
Andrew W. White - Shelby Township MI, US
Young Doe - Macomb MI, US
Marcel R. Cannon - Romeo MI, US
Assignee:
GM Global Technology Operations LLC - Detroit MI
International Classification:
B62D 25/08
US Classification:
29618709
Abstract:
An impact receiving structure in a motor vehicle includes a vehicle frame having left and right frame rails extending longitudinally and cross frame rails extending transversely between the left and right frame rails. A vehicle body is mounted on the vehicle frame and has a transverse bulkhead and left and right A-pillars connected to the bulkhead. Left and right upper rails extend longitudinally above the front wheels and outboard of the left and right frame rails and are connected respectively to the left and right frame rails by left and right braces. Left and right deflector devices are mounted on the left and right frame rails forwardly of the front wheels and extend outwardly from the left and right frame rails to receive an impact force and transmit the impact force into the frame that would otherwise transmit through the left and right upper rail structures.

Engine Cradle With Deflector Device

View page
US Patent:
8480130, Jul 9, 2013
Filed:
Sep 30, 2011
Appl. No.:

View page
US Patent:
20070228769, Oct 4, 2007
Filed:
Mar 28, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/391096
