US Patent:
42532051, Mar 3, 1981
Filed:
Mar 26, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/024029
Inventors:
Aloysius J. Mikos - Skokie IL
Assignee:
Leggett & Platt, Incorporated - Carthage MO
International Classification:
A47C 1714
US Classification:
5 13
Abstract:
A sofa or davenport having a foldable bed frame adapted to provide a seat when used as a sofa and a forwardly extending unfolded bed frame when used as a bed. The foldable frame includes pivotally interconnected head, body, intermediate and foot sections and a linkage operable to automatically control extension and contraction of the supporting legs and to control folding and unfolding of the interconnected sections between a fully extended, unfolded position wherein the sections extend over the sofa storage cavity and front rail; and a retracted position wherein the body, intermediate and foot sections are disposed substantially entirely below the plane of the top surface of the front rail of the sofa and the head section is disposed behind the back rest cushion of the sofa. The foldable bed frame is mounted to the sofa and supported by forward and rear support levers, the forward lever being pivotally connected at its lower end to an anchor plate secured to the sofa side frame and the rear lever being pivotable and slidable at its base in a generally horizontal slot in the anchor plate as the bed frame is moved between its retracted and its extended positions. The mounting and support system providing for a more balanced bed and eliminates the requirement for strong lift springs to operate the sleeper.

US Patent:
39954633, Dec 7, 1976
Filed:
Jul 25, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/599190
Inventors:
Aloysius J. Mikos - Skokie IL
Assignee:
Chicago Lock Co. - Chicago IL
International Classification:
E05B 1700
US Classification:
70388
Abstract:
A key ejector lock adapted for use in the door of a cabinet or other enclosure and which will eject the lock key in any rotational position thereof comprises a tubular barrel, a front end plug rotatable and axially reciprocally movable in the barrel and having a keyway extending therethrough, a rear end plug rotatable in the barrel and adapted for connection to a locking member, drive means interposed between the plugs and fixed to the rear end plug for rotation therewith, means providing a sliding drive connection between the front end plug and the drive means, means resiliently urging the front end plug forwardly in the barrel, means on the barrel providing rearwardly opening circumferentially spaced internal notches, lug means projecting outwardly from the front end plug and removably received in the notches for securing the rear end plug in respective locked and unlocked rotational positions, a key ejector axially reciprocally movable in the barrel between the front end plug and the drive means and engaging a key inserted through the keyway, and means resiliently urging the key ejector forwardly in the barrel, whereby insertion of a key in the keyway serves to move the front end plug rearwardly to free the rotatable parts for rotation and enable the key to rotate the front end plug for rotating the rear end plug between the locked and unlocked positions thereof.

Latch Particularly For An Adjustable Head Section Of A Foldable Sofa-Sleeper Frame

View page
US Patent:
46691340, Jun 2, 1987
Filed:
Mar 21, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/477141
Inventors:
Aloysius J. Mikos - Skokie IL
Assignee:
Leggett & Platt, Incorporated - Carthage MO
International Classification:
A47C 1704
US Classification:
5 13
Abstract:
A latch is disclosed for positioning and releasably retaining articulated linkages such as the pivotally interconnected head and body section angles of a folding sofa sleeper bed frame. The latch includes a connecting link pivotally connected at one end to the body section having at its opposite end an elongated slot including a latching notch, a latch plate slidably mounted on the connecting link having an elongated slot which overlies a portion of the length the slot in the connecting link, and a pin connected to the head section angle making a lost motion connection within the connecting link and latch plate slots. The head section of the bed frame is sequentially movable from a lowered position where it is coplanar with the body section, to a ready or "latch cocked" position which exposes the latching notch in the connecting link for receiving the head section pin, to a TV position where the head section is held in a raised, angulated position with respect to the body section by the head section pin being captured in the latching notch in the connecting link, to a release position where the head section pin is released from the latching notch and the head section is movable back to its lowered position.
