Abstract:
The present invention is directed to an electrical connector that attaches a fuel injector assembly to a vehicle control assembly. The electrical connector comprises a plastic molded body having two integrally formed portions, a base portion and a stem portion, and an electrical contact extending through the body from the stem portion to the base portion. The base is inserted into the fuel injector assembly with the electrical contact engaging a corresponding contact within the fuel injector assembly. Similarly, the electrical contact in the stem portion of the connector is attached to a corresponding contact of a control assembly, which provides the electrical signals to operate the fuel injector. The base portion includes a metallic sleeve that extends between its sidewalls and cooperates with a locking pin that is inserted through openings in the fuel injector assembly to lock the two components together. The sleeve openings are slightly offset from the fuel injector assembly openings so that when the locking pin is inserted, it aligns the two components and urges the electrical connector further into the fuel injector assembly.

Abstract:
An automatically locking bayonet coupling mechanism includes, a linear guide structure for preventing relative rotation between the coupler halves, a sleeve rotatably mounted on one of the coupler halves, a spring captured between the sleeve and the coupler half on which it is mounted to generate a torsional force between the sleeve and the coupler half, an L-shaped groove in the other of the coupler halves, and a bayonet pin extending from the sleeve and arranged to engage cam surfaces defined by edges of the groove. As the coupler halves are pushed together linearly, engagement between the bayonet pin and a first of the cam surfaces causes the sleeve to rotate against the force of the spring. Subsequently, the bayonet pin is caused to engage a second of the cam surfaces that forms a locking ramp. As the sleeve is caused to rotate into a locking position in response to the spring force, the angle of the locking ramp causes the spring force on the bayonet pin and locking ramp to also draw the coupler halves together, and to maintain the axial force that draws the coupler halves together after the bayonet pin comes to rest before the end of the locking ramp.

Abstract:
The internally threaded coupling ring or nut of a conventional rotational coupling system is replaced with a multi-tined locking ring that traverses the threads in an axial direction and locks onto the external threads of the mating half. The tines are positioned such that the forces are evenly distributed around the connector periphery and an anti-decoupling sleeve is extended over the tines and arranged such that, when the sleeve is in a first position, tangs extending inwardly from the tines are prevented from escaping the threads of the externally threaded mating half, and such that the sleeve may be pulled in an axial direction to permit the tines to more easily clear the threads and thereby facilitate decoupling.
