Abstract:
A sensor and method of use thereof for continuously measuring intraocular pressure (IOP) is disclosed. The sensor is designed to be adhered to the sclera of an eye and may be passive or active, with or without flash memory or other data storage media. The sensor includes a pressure monitoring device that abuts the sclera and generates a signal that may be correlated to IOP. The sensor then transmits this signal to either a receiver in a base unit or to flash memory within the sensor. In exemplary embodiments the pressure monitoring device includes a strain array and/or a resonant circuit, but any pressure monitoring device may be used. In one embodiment the sensor includes a microprocessor unit that controls the other electrical components of the sensor and directly interrogates the pressure monitoring device for a each IOP measurement.

A multiple focal length transducer comprising a first end allowing cooperable attachment to an ultrasound bio-microscope. A second end allowing contact with a water bath. A bottom surface with an adhesion surface including a plurality of micro-protrusions, or an adhesive adhered to the bottom surface; a pressure monitoring device configured to measure intraocular pressure of an eye and generate a signal representing the measured pressure; and a transmitter configured to transmit the signal. The bottom surface is arranged to secure the sensor to: an outer surface of a conjunctiva for the eye without penetrating the conjunctiva; or an outer surface of a sclera for the eye without penetrating the sclera.

Abstract:
A pachymeter apparatus for measuring corneal thickness is configured for the calculation of intraocular pressure (“IOP”). The apparatus includes a pachymeter for measuring corneal thickness as well as a microprocessor and a user interface. A reading of IOP from a tonometer can be entered into the device and corrected according to the pachymeter reading of corneal thickness. Correction algorithms are user selectable and user customizable. A pachymeter may have a graphical display which displays multiple locations at which measurements are to be taken. A pachymeter may use a capacitor charged by a variable current supply to measure times for signals to be reflected from a back side of a cornea.
