Conditional Purchase Offer Management System For Telephone Calls

View page
US Patent:
6345090, Feb 5, 2002
Filed:
Sep 4, 1997
Appl. No.:
08/923317
Inventors:
Jay S. Walker - Ridgefield CT
Thomas M. Sparico - Riverside CT
Bruce Schneier - Minneapolis MN
Assignee:
priceline.com Incorporated - Norwalk CT
International Classification:
H04M 1500
US Classification:
37911412, 37911403, 37911405, 37911419, 705 23, 705 37
Abstract:
A conditional purchase offer (CPO) management system is disclosed for receiving and processing CPOs for telephone calls from calling parties. The CPO management system processes the CPO to determine whether one or more long distance carriers is willing to accept a given CPO and complete a telephone call in accordance with restrictions defined by the calling party. If accepted, the CPO management system binds the calling party on behalf of the accepting interexchange carrier, to form a legally binding contract. A calling party can submit a CPO for an individual telephone call, a package of calls to one or more called parties, or for a contract to provide telephone service for a predefined period of time. The conditions defined by the calling party may include the telephone number to be called, the maximum price, one or more preferred carriers, if any, as well as any time limitations, such as a particular time-of-day or minimum call duration. Preferably, the calling party initially contacts the CPO management system, for example, by means of telephone or Internet connection, to provide the CPO management system with the terms of the CPO.

Conditional Purchase Offer Buyer Agency System

View page
US Patent:
6356878, Mar 12, 2002
Filed:
Dec 22, 1997
Appl. No.:
08/997170
Inventors:
Jay S. Walker - Ridgefield CT
Andrew S. Van Luchene - Norwalk CT
Daniel E. Tedesco - Stamford CT
James A. Jorasch - Stamford CT
Thomas M. Sparico - Riverside CT
Assignee:
priceline.com Incorporated - Norwalk CT
International Classification:
G06F 1760
US Classification:
705 26, 705 37, 705 39
Abstract:
A conditional purchase offer (CPO) buyer agency system is disclosed for processing variable conditional purchase offers (CPOs) containing at least one variable condition. If a posted CPO is not accepted by at least one seller for a predefined period of time, or has been rejected by all potential sellers, the terms of the posted CPO may be modified by the CPO buyer agency system, within the tolerances specified by the buyer in the variable CPO, to facilitate acceptance. A buyer can submit a variable CPO having two sets of conditions, namely, a first set and a second set of conditions, as well as the corresponding buyer-defined offer price for each condition set. In addition, the buyer preferably provides a set of rules to control the gradual posting of the condition sets between the first and second condition sets, as well as the appropriate adjustments to the corresponding offer price. A buyer can also submit a variable CPO having several predefined CPO sets, each with defined condition sets and corresponding offer prices, as well as a priority for their posting. If the highest priority CPO is not accepted, the next CPO in the prioritized list can be posted until a CPO is bound, all possibilities have been exhausted or the variable CPO has expired.

View page
US Patent:
6361437, Mar 26, 2002
Filed:
Sep 22, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/401205
Inventors:
Jay S. Walker - Ridgefield CT
James A. Jorasch - Stamford CT
Thomas M. Sparico - Riverside CT
Assignee:
Walker Digital, LLC - Stamford CT
International Classification:
A63F 924
US Classification:
463 23
Abstract:
A method and system for remote play of a gaming device, such as a slot machine. A player enters play preferences at a remote wagering terminal. The remote wagering terminal transmits the play preferences to a slot network server that stores the play preferences. Based upon the play preferences, the slot network server identifies one or more slot machines and transmits outcome data from those slot machines to the remote wagering terminal. The outcome data may be live or historical. In one embodiment of the present invention, the slot network service generates simulated outcome data to the remote wagering terminal. The slot network server keeps track of the players wins and losses based upon the outcome data.

Method And System For Attaching Customized Indexes To Periodicals

View page
US Patent:
6377963, Apr 23, 2002
Filed:
May 23, 1997
Appl. No.:
08/862250
Inventors:
Jay S. Walker - Ridgefield CT
Thomas M. Sparico - Riverside CT
Assignee:
Walker Digital, LLC - Stamford CT
International Classification:
G06F 1500
US Classification:
707530, 707 3, 707102, 345789
Abstract:
The present invention solves the problems of the prior art by providing customized content-sensitive indexes, created for each reader from previously supplied user profiles. Information is provided in advance by the user for the creation of a sophisticated index scanning all articles in a given publication. User supplied factors and relationships between factors, as well as scanning criteria, identify the specific information most useful to the reader. For example, the customer may provide a request to have all articles relating to ânâ, where ânâ is a key phrase or word relating to some area of interest. The system would then scan the content of a magazine and retrieve all articles where that key phrase or word appears âxâ times and at least one of those times is âyâ words away from âzâ. The indexes themselves are attached or otherwise provided, via fax, Internet, etc. , for use with the physical magazine and can quickly and easily identify only those articles known to be of interest to the reader, segregating them from perhaps hundreds of less important articles.

Slot Machine Advertising/Sales System And Method

View page
US Patent:
6390917, May 21, 2002
Filed:
Mar 8, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/521869
Inventors:
Jay S. Walker - Ridgefield CT
James A. Jorasch - Stamford CT
Thomas M. Sparico - Riverside CT
Assignee:
Walker Digital, LLC - Stamford CT
International Classification:
A63F 924
US Classification:
463 20, 463 42, 463 25, 705 27
Abstract:
A network server provides control functions for gambling devices of the type which provide intermittent monetary payments to players at a point-of-play. The point-of-play includes an interactive display device for displaying messages to the player and for receiving player responses which are then transmitted to a network server. Memory at the network server stores product and product purchase information and customer profile data. The network server causes transmission of product and product purchase information to the interactive display device and monitors each of the gambling devices to detect an occurrence of a player win that requires a monetary payout. The network server is responsive to the detection of the player win and to an entry from the player which indicates the purchase of a product (as offered by a locally displayed advertisement), to credit the purchase price of the product against the anticipated monetary payout. The network server is also controlled to display selected subsets of product and product purchase information in accord with player characteristic data that is input by the player at the gambling device.

US Patent:
6487291, Nov 26, 2002
Filed:
Aug 7, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/633625
Inventors:
Jay S. Walker - Ridgefield CT
James A. Jorasch - Stamford CT
Thomas M. Sparico - Riverside CT
Assignee:
Walker Digital, LLC - Stamford CT
International Classification:
H04M 3523
US Classification:
37926602, 379 8816, 379 8818
Abstract:
A priority call queuing system allows the called site to exercise control over the position in a phone queue of an incoming call, based upon an economic value assigned to the incoming call. When the incoming call is received, an interactive voice response unit interrogates the caller and determines information such as, identity of the caller, quantity of items to be ordered, item numbers, catalog numbers and other data from which an economic value of the call can be determined. Thereafter, the call information is used, in conjunction with pricing and other economic data, present in a database at the called site, to assign an economic value to the call. The calls position in the queue is then adjusted in manner that is hidden from the caller, in accordance with the determined economic value. The rank positions of other calls within the queue are adjusted, accordingly.

US Patent:
6500068, Dec 31, 2002
Filed:
Mar 2, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/798719
Inventors:
Jay S. Walker - Ridgefield CT
James A. Jorasch - Stamford CT
Thomas M. Sparico - Riverside CT
Jesse M. Fink - Wilton CT
Assignee:
Walker Digital, LLC - Stamford CT
International Classification:

463 25, 463 16, 463 30
Abstract:
A gaming system includes a network server connected to a plurality of gaming devices that are adapted to provide a video payout on each play based on a set of payout parameters. Memory at each gaming device stores payout parameters that correspond to each possible gaming result or outcome. When a play is initiated by a player, a gaming result is generated at a gaming device. The gaming device responds by accessing a corresponding payout parameter from the memory which may be a monetary amount, a video presentation segment or a combination thereof. If the payout is video, the network server receives the payout parameter and transmits video presentation segment to the gaming device accordingly. The gaming device then provides a video payout, in the form of displayed video presentation, to the player. The player thus receives at least one form of payment on each play.
