System And Method For Separating Multiple Workloads Processing In A Single Computer Operating Environment

View page
US Patent:
20070256076, Nov 1, 2007
Filed:
Dec 29, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/647650
Inventors:
James W. Thompson - West Chester PA, US
Phillip M. Hoffman - Oreland PA, US
Jeffery A. Stell - Exton PA, US
Jessica A. Paragas - Springfield PA, US
Steven D. Schatz - Eagleville PA, US
Tatyana Martsun - Philadelphia PA, US
Anthony P. Matyok - Springfield PA, US
William Stratton - Malvern PA, US
Eugene W. Troxell - King of Prussia PA, US
Robert K. Liermann - Downington PA, US
International Classification:
G06F 9/46
US Classification:
718102
Abstract:
A computing system having multiple processors in which these processors are configured to support a plurality of workload types may provide processing metering by workload types. In such a system, a server control module provides a mechanism for automatically configuring processor sets for processing tasks of each workload type supported by the system. This various processor sets are uniquely configured to support tasks of any given workload type. Tasks from a particular workload type are assigned to execute on a processor configured to support that workload type. If no processor set for a given workload type is present in a system, a task of that workload type may also be performed on a standard processor.

US Patent:
20070256144, Nov 1, 2007
Filed:
Dec 29, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/647683
Inventors:
Phillip M. Hoffman - Oreland PA, US
Jeffery A. Stell - Exton PA, US
Jessica A. Paragas - Springfield PA, US
Tatyana Martsun - Philadelphia PA, US
Steven D. Schatz - Eagleville PA, US
Robert K. Liermann - Downington PA, US
Robert J. Sliwa - Chalfont PA, US
International Classification:
H04L 9/32
US Classification:
726 28
Abstract:
A computing system using a persistent, unique identifier may be used to authenticate the system that ensures software and configurations of systems are properly licensed while permitting hardware components to be replaced. The persistent, unique system identifier may be coupled to serial numbers or similar hardware identifiers of components within the computing system while permitting some of the hardware components to be deleted and changed. When components that are coupled to the persistent, unique identifier are removed or disabled, a predefined time period is provided to update the coupling of the persistent, unique identifier to alternate hardware component in the system.

US Patent:
20070266391, Nov 15, 2007
Filed:
Dec 29, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/648243
Inventors:
Philip Hoffman - Oreland PA, US
Jeffery Stell - Exton PA, US
Jessica Paragas - Springfield PA, US
Tatyana Martsun - Philadelphia PA, US
James Baker - Glen Mills PA, US
Steven Schatz - Eagleville PA, US
Robert Liermann - Downingtown PA, US
James Thompson - West Chester PA, US
International Classification:
G06F 9/46
US Classification:
718106000
Abstract:
A computing system having multiple processors in which these processors are configured to support a plurality of workload types may provide processing metering by workload types. In such a system, metering provides a measure of the normalized processing throughput utilized by processing tasks for each workload type supported by the system. This metering measures processing throughput for tasks of any given workload type that is performed by a processor configured to support that workload type as well as tasks of that type which may also be performed on a standard processor.
