Multi-Variate Data Presentation Method Using Ecologically Valid Stimuli

View page
US Patent:
6639614, Oct 28, 2003
Filed:
Jul 10, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/613605
Inventors:
Stephen Michael Kosslyn - Cambridge MA, 02138
Giorgio Ganis - Allston MA, 02134-3734
Robin Sue Rosenberg - Cambridge MA, 02138
International Classification:
G09G 500
US Classification:
345837, 345440
Abstract:
A method is provided whereby combinations of ecologically valid images and sounds are used for visualization of large amounts of information. Icons and sounds are selected and combined to accentuate natural recognition of pattern information and changes. A visual field of similar icons represents a corresponding field of data sets, where the appearance of each icon illustrates the respective values of the underlying data. Within each icon, elements change in shape, size, number, color, and motion to illustrate the respective changes of data within the corresponding data set. Stereophonic sound occurrence, spatial location, type, and volume signal the user about the general situation, as well as the type and importance of individual data changes, stimulating the users attention during events of interest.

System And Method For On-Site Cognitive Efficacy Assessment

View page
US Patent:
20050053904, Mar 10, 2005
Filed:
Aug 13, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/918592
Inventors:
Jennifer Shephard - Watertown MA, US
Stephen Kosslyn - Cambridge MA, US
International Classification:
G09B019/00
A61B005/00
US Classification:
434236000, 600300000, 128897000, 128920000
Abstract:
A system and method of determining diminishment in brain function in relation to at least one of specific adverse factors and specific tasks. The system involves establishing threshold levels for at least one brain function that is either affected by specific adverse factors or is used to perform specific tasks, or both. A test-taker is given a battery of tests from a portable testing unit, where the tests have been tailored to measure specific cognitive functions that can be affected by adverse factors, cognitive functions that are required to perform specific tasks, or both. Scores from the tests are compared to the threshold levels required to perform a task, and a determination is made concerning the capability of the individual to handle the task(s) in question. The portable testing unit may be connected to equipment whose use is denied for test results that fall below a normative level for the activity.

Neuroimaging As A Marketing Tool

View page
US Patent:
60993197, Aug 8, 2000
Filed:
Nov 9, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/188796
Inventors:
Gerald Zaltman - Boston MA
Stephen M. Kosslyn - Cambridge MA
International Classification:
G09B 1900
US Classification:
434236
Abstract:
Neuroimaging as a means for validating whether a stimulus such as advertisement, communication, or product evokes a certain mental response such as emotion, preference, or memory, or to predict the consequences of the stimulus on later behavior such as consumption or purchasing. Subjects are exposed to stimuli of varying types. Their brain responses are then measured by any one or a combination of neuroimaging devices. The results of neuroimaging are then used to predict future behavior of the subject and those similarly situated with respect to purchase or consumption of products, based upon the non-subjective evidence of neuroimaging.

System And Method For Displaying A Large Number Of Participants In A Videoconference

View page
US Patent:
20210005098, Jan 7, 2021
Filed:
Sep 22, 2020
Appl. No.:
17/028873
Inventors:
- San Francisco CA, US
Scott Lane Williams - San Anselmo CA, US
Stephen M. Kosslyn - San Francisco CA, US
Assignee:
Foundry College, Inc. - San Francisco CA
International Classification:
G09B 5/14
G06Q 10/06
G09B 5/06
G09B 5/10
G09B 5/12
G09B 7/02
G09B 5/00
Abstract:
Systems and methods for displaying a large number of participants in videoconference are described. The participant's video feeds are presented in a continuous scrolling manner, such that each participant's video feed is visible for a part of the time. The participants may select the number of videos displayed at one time on a grid. The system and method monitor which video feeds are being, or about to be displayed, and streams the feeds accordingly. The system and method also provide for classroom-like settings by allowing students to “raise their hand” and be “called on” by an instructor. By scrolling though all of the videos in a meeting, people that are running a session can monitor the other participants, permitting them to select someone to focus on, and allows the other participants to see each other, producing a “sense of belonging.”

Online Classroom System And Method For Monitoring Student Activity

View page
US Patent:
20200302812, Sep 24, 2020
Filed:
Mar 20, 2020
Appl. No.:
16/826153
Inventors:
- San Francisco CA, US
Michael Laurence Davis - Palo Alto CA, US
Stephen M. Kosslyn - San Francisco CA, US
Assignee:
Foundry College, Inc. - San Francisco CA
International Classification:
G09B 5/00
Abstract:
Systems and methods for online classroom instruction are described that facilitate the learning and application of course information in an active and synchronous learning environment. The system monitors the activity of the students in each breakout group, and the teacher is provided with a graphical indication, for each breakout group, of the amount of activity. The teacher may also use the graphical interface to either view a particular breakout group, or become n active member of a particular breakout group. The teacher may also move students from one breakout group to another.
