Hot Swap Compact Pci Power Supply

View page
US Patent:
6950896, Sep 27, 2005
Filed:
May 9, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/434626
Inventors:
Nicholas Emmanuel Scordalakes - Costa Mesa CA, US
Stephen Eugene Holness - Costa Mesa CA, US
Assignee:
Emulex Design & Manufacturing Corporation - Costa Mesa CA
International Classification:
G06F013/00
G06F001/26
US Classification:
710301, 710302, 713300
Abstract:
A two-step approach to power up a host bus adapter (HBA) or other adapter card during a live insertion is disclosed. A low power linear regulator provides early power while the system is in its reset state, then a FET is gradually turned on using a Hot Swap Controller to provide operational power to the HBA, at which time the linear regulator is disabled. The linear regulator provides early power to pre-charge the CompactPCI signal interface on the HBA and place the HBA CompactPCI drivers in tri-state while the HBA is held in reset.

Data Path Differentiator For Pre-Emphasis Requirement Determination Or Slot Identification

US Patent:
8004997, Aug 23, 2011
Filed:
Mar 6, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/369326
Inventors:
Alan Frank Jovanovich - Costa Mesa CA, US
Stephen Eugene Holness - Costa Mesa CA, US
Assignee:
Emulex Design & Manufacturing Corporation - Costa Mesa CA
International Classification:
G01R 31/08
US Classification:
370248
Abstract:
An apparatus and method is disclosed for generating path length information for two (usually redundant) receive paths in a receiving device such as a server blade so that the proper amount of equalization and/or pre-emphasis may be applied to receiver and driver circuits in the server blade. In one embodiment, the path length information comprises a longer or shorter path determination, and may also include a estimation of the slot location. In another embodiment, the path length information comprises a representation of the length of two receive paths. The path length information generating circuit is connected to the two receive inputs of the receiving device though high impedance elements, and the path length information may be utilized by hardware or a processor to set the equalization or pre-emphasis in the receiver and/or driver.

Memory Data Interface

US Patent:
20040233733, Nov 25, 2004
Filed:
May 19, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/440855
Inventors:
Eric Peel - Costa Mesa CA, US
Qing Xue - Costa Mesa CA, US
Sam Su - Costa Mesa CA, US
Stephen Holness - Costa Mesa CA, US
Assignee:
EMULEX CORPORATION - Costa Mesa CA
International Classification:
G11C005/00
US Classification:
365/189010
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a memory data interface for transferring data between a memory device and an integrated circuit, whereby, in accordance with one aspect of the present invention, the memory data interface includes a data selector for selecting and normalizing data from memory devices operating at different data transfer timing, and, in accordance with another aspect of the present invention, the memory data interface is capable of transferring data between a memory device and an integrated circuit having a different bus width than the memory device. In accordance with yet another aspect of the present invention, the memory data interface is capable of transferring data between an integrated circuit and a variety of different memory device having different data bus widths. Finally, in accordance with yet another aspect of the present invention, the memory data interface is capable of transferring data between an integrated circuit and a variety of memory devices having different bus widths and different data transfer timing.
