Wayne P. Young - Brewster NY
Assignee:
United States Surgical Corporation - Norwalk CT
International Classification:
A61M 5178
US Classification:
60416704, 60416707, 137849, 137855
Abstract:
A valve assembly is provided for permitting the introduction of a surgical instrument into a patients body while providing a substantial seal about the instrument. The valve assembly includes a sealing gasket assembly providing a fluid tight seal before instrument insertion, and is configured and dimensioned for accommodating an instrument and providing a substantial fluid tight seal after insertion of an instrument. The valve assembly may further include a deformable sealing member having a substantially central aperture for accommodating the instrument. The sealing member provides a substantial seal about the instrument when the instrument is passed therethrough impeding the egress of fluids and gasses through the valve assembly.

International Classification:
A61B 1000
US Classification:
600564, 600567, 606 39, 606 45
Abstract:
A surgical apparatus for removing a portion of tissue comprising an elongated body having a distal edge and a cutting member fixedly mounted to the elongated body and extending distally of the distal edge of the elongated body member. The cutting member has an exposed conductive distal edge forming an electrosurgical cutting surface for applying electrical energy to tissue. The cutting member resects a tubular region of tissue as the apparatus is advanced through tissue and the resected tissue extends through an opening in the cutting ring for containment within the elongated body.

May 14, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/145863
Inventors:
Peter W. J. Hinchliffe - Dowington PA, US
Stephan A. Defonzo - Wayne PA, US
Assignee:
Rex Medical, L.P. - Conshohocken PA
International Classification:
A61M 5/178
US Classification:
60416401, 604158, 604187
Abstract:
A surgical apparatus for delivering fluid to treat a lesion comprising an elongated member having a distal tip and a first and second set of openings formed in a sidewall proximal of the distal tip. The second set of openings is positioned proximally of the first set of openings. First and second set of fluid delivery members are movably positioned in the elongated for delivering fluid to the lesion. An actuator moves the fluid delivery members from a retracted position within the elongated members to a first deployed position extending radially with respect to the elongated member and moves the fluid delivery members from the first deployed position to a second deployed position extending further radially from the elongated member.
