Friction Type Exercising Device With Force Gauge And Shoulder Mounting Screw

View page
US Patent:
56560044, Aug 12, 1997
Filed:
Nov 18, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/746835
Inventors:
Ronald E. Useldinger - Scotts Valley CA
Paul Eric Peterson - San Francisco CA
Assignee:
Fitness Motivation Institute of America - Scotts Valley CA
International Classification:
A63B 21018
US Classification:
482120
Abstract:
An improved friction type exercise device of the type in which a housing has an outer wall forming a hollow cavity with a central axis. A central shaft is positioned within the cavity and positioned to allow axial and rotative movement relative to the housing when moved in one axial direction and preventing axial rotative movement relative to the housing when moved in the other axial direction. A hub is positioned in the cavity and fixed to the shaft to move axially therewith while allowing rotation of the shaft relative to the hub, the hub being nonrotatable with respect to the housing and includes a first and a second opening. A rope-like member extends through the first opening in the hub, around the shaft and out the second opening in the hub whereby when the rope-like member is pulled frictional resistance is exerted on the rope-like member in proportion to the number of turns around the shaft. The rope-like member is attached to the shaft whereby with relative rotation of the shaft and the hub, the number of turns the rope-like member about the shaft is changed. A releasable mechanism for holding the shaft against rotation relative to the housing which when released allows rotation of the shaft within the cavity thereby to change the number of turns the rope-like member is wound around the shaft.

Friction Type Exercising Device With Improved Friction Setting Mechanism

US Patent:
40406270, Aug 9, 1977
Filed:
Jul 22, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/707895
Inventors:
Ronald E. Useldinger - San Jose CA
International Classification:
A63B 2100
US Classification:
272133
Abstract:
An exercising device adapted to be fixed to a support and including an elongated shaft around which a rope is wrapped as it passes into and out of the device. The exercise device includes a hub having off-center openings through which the rope is passed. The hub normally is locked against rotation but can be unlocked for rotation relative to the shaft in a combination ball and race structure which both indicates the relative position of the hub and the shaft and releasably locks the hub against rotation about the shaft. Turning the hub changes the rope turns about the shaft to adjust the pull on the device.

Apparatus For Digitally Displaying Muscle Strength

View page
US Patent:
43076084, Dec 29, 1981
Filed:
Jan 14, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/112120
Inventors:
Ronald E. Useldinger - San Jose CA
Joseph E. Byerly - Santa Clara CA
Assignee:
Fitness Motivation Institute of America - San Jose CA
International Classification:
G01L 502
US Classification:
73379
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to an apparatus for digitally displaying muscle strength. This apparatus measures the output of a load cell under tension or compression and presents a digital readout of the force applied to the load cell in pounds. This apparatus features among other things an analog output which is linearly related to force in pounds for driving a chart recorder, a digital readout of force in pounds and a memory feature which permits retention of the peak value in pounds as a number readout until such time as the result is cancelled at the press of a button.
