Thread Trimmer

View page
US Patent:
41877926, Feb 12, 1980
Filed:
Mar 27, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/890346
Inventors:
Ronald J. Boser - Dix Hills NY
Walter P. Siegel - Lebanon NJ
Michael F. Picciotti - Jackson Heights NY
Assignee:
Union Special Corporation - Chicago IL
International Classification:
D05B 6500
US Classification:
112286
Abstract:
Herein disclosed is a below the throat plate thread trimmer which is moved in a path from the right side of the rotary hook assembly, up and over it and then downwardly to the left of it. The path being in the nature of a compound angle whereby elements of the thread cutter portion pass into the needle thread loop at a most advantageous angle. After securing and separating the bobbin thread and respective legs of the needle thread loop, the thread trimmer is moved to position directly below the needle hole. While in this position the bobbin thread and one leg of the needle thread loop are cut.

Sewing Apparatus

View page
US Patent:
39942465, Nov 30, 1976
Filed:
Jun 30, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/591948
Inventors:
Ronald J. Boser - Huntington Station NY
Assignee:
B & W Manufacturing Co., Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
D05B 2100
D05B 108
D05B 3500
US Classification:
11212112
Abstract:
In an apparatus for sewing articles, such as sewing a slide fastener chain to an opening in an article, stitching of thread to an article is initiated by a manual control and is terminated by an automatic control in response to the sensing of a terminal point, such as the terminal point of an opening, on the article. Article guiding facilities urge folded edge portions of an article toward each other by spring biased members on folding plates. A scroll for receiving and guiding a folded edge portion of an article has an adjustable channel. A linear motion apparatus, such as a dual needle holding mechanism, employs a linear motor driving a camming member which engages a locking member on a movable member to move the movable member to a selected position and to operate the locking member.

Belt Drive Material Feed Control Apparatus For Sewing Machines

View page
US Patent:
48133647, Mar 21, 1989
Filed:
Apr 8, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/179074
Inventors:
Ronald J. Boser - Bayshore NY
International Classification:
D05B 3510
D05B 304
D05B 2710
US Classification:
112304
Abstract:
For use with a sewing machine an attachment for guiding fabric in which use is made of a belt laterally displaced to the side of the feed dogs which is in contact with the fabric, and thus does not require to be descended thereagainst, and which also is oriented in the direction of sewing, wherein the speed at which the belt urges the fabric through the sewing station is controlled to be either slower or faster than the speed at which the fabric is urged through movement by the feed dogs, so that the relative difference between the speeds shifts the fabric in opposite directions laterally of the direction of sewing to thereby enable the sewing of varying curvatures in the edge of the fabric.

Method Of And Apparatus For Attaching Fly Strips To A Slide Fastener Chain

View page
US Patent:
46608214, Apr 28, 1987
Filed:
Jul 31, 1985
Appl. No.:
6/760968
Inventors:
Ronald J. Boser - Dix Hills NY
Michael T. Martin - Gainsville GA
Assignee:
Yoshida Kogyo K.K. - Tokyo
International Classification:
B65H 500
D05B 1900
D05B 316
US Classification:
271 10
Abstract:
Automatic assembly for sewing flypiece to a continuous slide fastener chain includes a sewing machine, a gapping device from which the continuous chain having element-free gaps formed at regular intervals therealong is fed to the sewing machine, and a flypiece delivery system for successively retrieving individual flypieces one at a time from a stack and successively advancing to the sewing machine. The flypiece delivery system is arranged such that successive flypieces are sewn to the fastener chain virtually even with the rate at which gapped chain is delivered from the gapping device.

Method Of Attaching A Slide Fastener To An Article

View page
US Patent:
41310772, Dec 26, 1978
Filed:
Jan 27, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/544522
Inventors:
Ronald J. Boser - Huntington Station NY
Assignee:
B & W Manufacturing Co., Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
D05B 312
US Classification:
112265
Abstract:
A method of attaching a slide fastener from a continuous chain to a garment or other article by a pair of stitching threads each running longitudinally along a respective one of the fastener tapes, at least one of the stitching threads continuing transversely across the slide fastener to form a bottom stop and to attach the fastener tapes together and to the article for reinforcement.

Presser Foot Attachment

View page
US Patent:
43218806, Mar 30, 1982
Filed:
May 8, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/147986
Inventors:
Ronald J. Boser - Dix Hills NY
Assignee:
Union Special Corporation - Chicago IL
International Classification:
D05B 3700
D05B 3506
US Classification:
112127
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a presser foot attachment adapted for use with a sewing machine for stitching an upper material to a base material and simultaneously trimming the edge of the base material along a line closely adjacent the row of stitches. The presser foot attachment includes a main section and an auxiliary section. The main section of the foot terminates just forward of the sewing machine needle so as to allow the juxtaposed edges of the upper and lower materials to be placed in close proximity to the needle at the onset of the sewing operation. The auxiliary section is movable between two positions and aids in guiding and separating the upper material over the base material and to the sewing station of the machine.

Elastic Inserter For A Sewing Machine

View page
US Patent:
39644103, Jun 22, 1976
Filed:
Jan 24, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/543663
Inventors:
Ronald J. Boser - Dix Hills NY
Gerald Gluckin - New York NY
International Classification:
D05B 2300
US Classification:
11212126
Abstract:
An attachment for a sewing machine for inserting a selected length of elastic in a hem formed along a fabric edge, such as for example along the corners of a bed sheet, to thereby contribute to the form-fitting performance of the product. During sewing attachment of the elastic, it is contacted by a member disposed across its feed path, with the desired result that the elastic expands and is thus sewn in place with a controlled degree of tension. The aforesaid elastic-tensioning member, however, is effectively cleared from the elastic feed path during initial positioning or feed of the elastic to the sewing station by a track member which initially moves with the elastic and makes path-clearing contact with the elastic-tensioning member.
