Schott Glas - Mainz
International Classification:
H01J 6135
US Classification:
313636, 313580, 313579
Abstract:
A long life, halogen cycle, incandescent lamp ( ) for operation in excess of 85 volts. The lamp comprises a transparent glass envelope ( ) having sealed therewithin a tungsten filament ( ); a pair of electrical lead-ins ( ) connecting the filament and extending exteriorly of the envelope for connection to a supply voltage greater than 100 V; and a fill gas within the envelope, including a halogen, at a pressure of at least three atmospheres. The envelope is constructed of a five component alkaline earth aluminosilicate glass having a composition consisting essentially of, in weight percent from 58 to about 64% SiO , from about 14 to about 17% Al O ; from 0 to about 1% B O , from 1 to about 6% MgO, from about 6 to about 12% CaO, from about 7 to about 17% BaO and from 0 to about 1. 5% ZrO.

Lead- And Arsenic-Free Borosilicate Glass Having Improved Melting Characteristic

View page
US Patent:
6589896, Jul 8, 2003
Filed:
Jun 6, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/163653
Inventors:
Richard C. Marlor - Beverly MA
Assignee:
Osram Sylvania Inc. - Danvers MA
International Classification:
C03C 3091
US Classification:
501 66, 501 67
Abstract:
A lead- and arsenic-free borosilicate glass having an improved melting characteristic is described. The melting rate of the glass was improved dramatically by making the composition substantially free of MgO and CaO and adding 1. 0 to 4. 0 weight percent BaO. The improved melting characteristic yielded up to a ninety-nine percent reduction in the number of unmelted batch stones.

Appl. No.:
12/327207
Inventors:
Yi Zheng - Lynnfield MA, US
Richard C. Marlor - Beverly MA, US
George C. Wei - Weston MA, US
Assignee:
Osram Sylvania Inc. - Danvers MA
International Classification:
C03C 8/14
C03C 8/18
US Classification:
501 17, 501 15, 501 19
Abstract:
There is described a sealing composition for sealing aluminum nitride and aluminum oxynitride ceramics comprising: a mixture of SiO, at least one other metal oxide, and a silicon additive comprising at least one of silicon metal or a silicide. The silicon additive acts to suppress the formation of nitrogen bubbles during the sealing of articles comprised of aluminum nitride or aluminum oxynitride ceramics, e. g. , as in the case of a ceramic discharge vessel for a high intensity discharge lamp.
