Retainer Clip And Synthetic Resin Box Combination

View page
US Patent:
40363899, Jul 19, 1977
Filed:
Aug 25, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/607555
Inventors:
Harold T. Pate - Cleveland OH
Richard J. Borsh - Cleveland OH
Assignee:
Indian Head Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
H02G 314
F16B 1900
F16B 3702
US Classification:
220 38
Abstract:
A spring fastener of generally V-shaped configuration and including a first, substantially monoplanar leg joined to a second substantially monoplanar leg through a bend portion defining an acute angle of from about 43. degree. to about 48. degree. The second leg defines a circular aperture therethrough, and the first leg has a tongue pressed out of a central portion thereof, and projecting toward said second leg at an acute angle to said first leg. The tongue projects a distance from the plane of the first leg, as measured normal to that plane, which is from about one-half to about two-thirds of the total distance of projection of said bend portion from the plane of the first leg, also as measured normal to the plane of said first leg. The invention also includes and relates to fasteners of the type described in combination with a synthetic resin box which has an open side. The box carries a pair of the fasteners by having the described first leg of each fastener pressed into an accommodating slot in the box.

Mounting Fastener For Electrical Wiring Boxes

US Patent:
51700140, Dec 8, 1992
Filed:
Mar 21, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/326319
Inventors:
Richard J. Borsh - Chagrin Falls OH
Assignee:
The Lamson & Sessions Co. - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
H02G 308
US Classification:
174 53
Abstract:
An electrical outlet box is molded of plastic and includes push-in type screw receiving openings each of which is defined by rigid first and second walls having opposed semi-cylindrical faces mounted in spaced and axially aligned relationship to produce a generally cylindrical passage open at an outer end. Threads are formed about the interior of the cylindrical passage. The first wall is supported and carried substantially entirely by a resilient support wall lying in a plane generally perpendicular to the axis of the cylindrical passage. The support wall is mounted in cantilever fashion at a location spaced radially from the axis of the cylindrical passage so that the first wall can resiliently deflect away from the second wall when a screw is pushed axially into the passageway.

US Patent:
45785287, Mar 25, 1986
Filed:
Jul 29, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/518737
Inventors:
Richard J. Borsh - Chagrin Falls OH
Robert W. Ripley - Brecksville OH
Harold T. Pate - Solon OH
Assignee:
Thyssen-Bornemisza, Inc., (TBG Inc.) - New York NY
International Classification:
H02G 308
US Classification:
174 65G
Abstract:
An electrical outlet box optionally having in combination therewith, a connector fitting for connecting a corrugated conduit to the box, the box having a back wall and at least one side wall of synthetic resin. A pressure removable plug is displaced out of the plane of the side wall so as to provide a precisely delineated zone of weakness surrounding the plug. When one preferred type of connector fitting is used in combination with the box, a wedge-shaped end portion of the fitting, having a relatively small surface area, is manually pressed against the pressure removable plug along a pressure zone immediately radially inwardly from the zone of weakness. This pops the plug out of the wall of the box, leaving a neat, smooth hole into which the connector fitting may be inserted by continued manual pressure applied thereto. The connector fitting includes an expandable cylindrical body portion, and further includes an external circumferential groove at the intersection of the cylindrical body portion with the wedge-shaped end portion. The edge of the wall which defines the opening formed on removal of the plug snaps into this groove to interlock the connector fitting in the wall of the box.

Filed:

Appl. No.:
7/514688
Inventors:
Richard J. Borsh - Chagrin Falls OH
James A. Rajecki - Parma OH
In a first embodiment, the first wall is supported and carried substantially entirely by a resilient support wall lying in a plane generally perpendicular to the axis of the cylindrical passage. The support wall is mounted in cantilever fashion at a location spaced radially from the axis of the cylindrical passage so that the first wall can resiliently deflect away from the second wall when a screw is pushed axially into the passageway. In a second embodiment, both the first and second walls are mounted by resilient support walls to allow deflection in the manner described.

US Patent:
47119748, Dec 8, 1987
Filed:
Apr 30, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/857842
Inventors:
Richard J. Borsh - Chagrin Falls OH
Assignee:
The Carlon Company - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
F16L 302
US Classification:
174 65R
Abstract:
An adapter fitting for connecting a corrugated flexible conduit to an electrical outlet box which includes a pair of substantially identical, semi-cylindrical cooperating fitting halves. Each fitting half carries a projecting, externally threaded neck portion, and the halves are joined by an internally threaded locking ring. A radially inwardly projecting corrugation engaging rib is provided on the inner side of each fitting half.

Abstract:
A spring fastener or clip of generally V-shaped configuration and including a first, substantially monoplanar leg joined to a second, substantially monoplanar leg through a bend portion so that the legs define between them an acute angle from about 43. degree. to about 48. degree. The second leg has a circular aperture formed through a central portion, and the first leg has a tongue or tine pressed out of a central portion of the first leg and projecting generally toward the center of the aperture in the second leg, and at an acute angle of from about 22. degree. to about 28. degree. to the plane of the first leg. The tongue projects a distance from the plane of the first leg, as measured normal to that plane, and so as to include the thickness of the first leg, which is from about one-half to about two-thirds of the total distance of projection of the bend portion of the fastener from the plane of the first leg, also as measured normal to the plane of the first leg, and so as to include the thickness thereof. The invention also includes and relates to fasteners of the type described in combination with a synthetic resin box which has an open side, and which has a cover plate secured across the open side of the box by the use of said fasteners and screws. The box carries a plurality of the fasteners having the first described leg of each pressed into an accommodating slot in the box adjacent the open side thereof.
