Automobile Anti-Theft System

View page
US Patent:
6758071, Jul 6, 2004
Filed:
Dec 9, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/315828
Inventors:
Rex Reeb - Gilbert AZ, 85299
Colin G. OHair - Apache Junction AZ, 85220
International Classification:
F16H 5700
US Classification:
70201, 70181, 70256, 70237
Abstract:
An automobile anti-theft device comprises a decoupling assembly having a first decoupling portion that couples to an accelerator system and a second decoupling portion that couples to a throttle system. The first decoupling portion and the second decoupling portion are removably rotatingly coupled together. The first decoupling portion comprises a first decoupling disc having a locking pin aperture. A locking pin assembly is configured to removably couple with the first decoupling portion. The locking pin assembly comprises a locking pin removably extendable into the locking pin aperture, such that when the locking pin is not extended into the locking pin aperture the accelerator system may operate the throttle system and the automobiles engine can rev above idle, and when the locking pin is extended into the locking pin aperture the accelerator system is prevented from operating the throttle system and the automobiles engine cannot rev above idle.

US Patent:
20020100300, Aug 1, 2002
Filed:
Jan 31, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/773084
Inventors:
Rex Reeb - Gilbert AZ, US
Colin O'Hair - Apache Junction AZ, US
International Classification:
G05G005/00
US Classification:
070/201000
Abstract:
This invention is a remote-controllable automobile anti-theft device which replaces a common connection between the accelerator and the throttle of an automobile with a locking main shaft connector between an accelerator shaft and a throttle shaft. The locking main shaft rotates about a central axis in response to motion from the accelerator, and translates that motion to the throttle. The locking main shaft contains a hole. The remote control activates a push-pull solenoid which reversibly inserts a solenoid locking pin into the hole in the locking main shaft. When the solenoid locking pin is inserted into the hole in the locking main shaft, the locking main shaft is prevented from rotating around its pivot axis. Therefore, when the locking pin is inserted into the hole in the locking main shaft, motion of an accelerator shaft does not translate to the throttle shaft, and the automobile's engine cannot rev. In addition, the invention has tamper-resistant features such as being attached to the fire wall of the automobile by tamper resistant fasteners which are inserted from the engine side of the fire wall. Therefore, to remove the fasteners, the person removing the fasteners must have access to the engine side of the fire wall. In addition, the accelerator shaft contains a spring mechanism so that the accelerator pedal can still be pushed to the floor even when the device is locked.
