US Patent:
7622045, Nov 24, 2009
Filed:
Feb 22, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/358427
Inventors:
Leland Vane - Cincinnati OH, US
Ravi Ponangi - Modesto CA, US
Vasudevan Namboodiri - Mason OH, US
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Admin. of Environmental Prot. Agcy - Washington DC
International Classification:
B01D 11/00
B01D 63/00
US Classification:
210640, 210651, 21050037, 21050042, 2105021, 210663, 210263, 2101982, 95 45, 95 52
Abstract:
Hydrophilic cross-linked polymeric membranes, when prepared according to the process of the present invention, are unique in character in as much as the steady state permeability of the membrane has been altered by blending and cross-linking polyalkyl amines and polyalcohols. To obtain desired results, the compositions must contain at least 10% polyalkyl amines, with preferred amounts of polyalkyl amines in the composition being in excess of 40%, with over 50% polyalkyl amine concentration by weight.

Hydrophilic Mixed Matrix Materials Having Reversible Water Absorbing Properties

US Patent:
20030008966, Jan 9, 2003
Filed:
May 15, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/145383
Inventors:
Leland Vane - Cincinnati OH, US
Ravi Ponangi - Modesto CA, US
International Classification:
C08L029/04
US Classification:
524/503000, 524/557000, 525/192000, 525/330300
Abstract:
The preparation and usefulness of polymer-ceramic mixed matrix composite materials comprising one or more organic polymers and a nano sized dispersion of inorganic metal oxide particles throughout the polymer(s) are described. The mixed matrix materials are used as mass transfer agents by fabricating the matrix materials into thin membranes and using them to dehydrate organic streams by pervaporation/vapor permeation separation processes. In addition, mixed matrix gels of similar composition are prepared in a variety of shapes and show a remarkable degree of reversible water absorbing properties. Mechanical and physical properties of the gels, such as extent of swelling in water, can be controlled by controlling the mixed matrix material composition.
