Removal Of Mercury From Gases

View page
US Patent:
46937315, Sep 15, 1987
Filed:
Oct 27, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/923462
Inventors:
Ramanathan R. Tarakad - Houston TX
Duffer B. Crawford - Houston TX
Assignee:
The M. W. Kellogg Company - Houston TX
International Classification:
B01D 1900
US Classification:
55 72
Abstract:
Mercury is removed from natural gas by contacting the gas with a relatively mercury-free liquid state hydrocarbon and recovering a mercury-lean methane-rich gas and a mercury-enriched hydrocarbon liquid. The mercury-free hydrocarbon liquid may be obtained by separation of mercury from the mercury-enriched hydrocarbon liquid or its derivative streams.

Light Component Stripping In Plate-Fin Heat Exchangers

View page
US Patent:
55968830, Jan 28, 1997
Filed:
Oct 3, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/538540
Inventors:
Dennis P. Bernhard - Allentown PA
Howard C. Rowles - Center Valley PA
Ramanathan R. Tarakad - Sugar Land TX
John D. Bassett - Surbiton, GB3
Assignee:
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. - Allentown PA
International Classification:
F25J 300
US Classification:
62618
Abstract:
Light components are stripped from a multicomponent liquid feed mixture in a core type plate-fin heat exchanger by heating and partially vaporizing the mixture during downward flow in one of a plurality of multichannel flow passageways in the exchanger. The vapor thus formed flows upward and promotes vaporization of dissolved light components from the liquid to yield a liquid product substantially free of lighter components. The passageways are disposed in indirect heat exchange with one or more additional groups of passageways, and heat for partial vaporization of the downward-flowing liquid feed mixture is provided by indirect heat exchange with a condensing process stream. Alternatively, this heat is provided by a bottoms stream recovered from distillation of the stripped liquid product withdrawn from the core type plate-fin heat exchanger.

Method For Partial Condensation Of Hydrocarbon Gas Mixtures

View page
US Patent:
47268263, Feb 23, 1988
Filed:
Jul 17, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/074732
Inventors:
Duffer B. Crawford - Houston TX
T. Michael O'Connor - Houston TX
Ramanathan R. Tarakad - Houston TX
Assignee:
The M. W. Kellogg Company - Houston TX
International Classification:
F25J 300
US Classification:
62 20
Abstract:
Heavy components of hydrocarbon gas mixtures are recovered through partial condensation of a first portion of the starting gas by indirect heat exchange with a refrigerant wherein the condensate formed is entrained in the gas stream. The condensate is separated from the resulting partially condensed, two-phase mixture and the separated condensate is then thermally stripped of light components by heat exchange with a second portion of the starting gas which is thereby also partially condensed. Heavy components from the starting gas mixture are recovered as stripped hydrocarbon condensate.
