US Classification:
181198, 181199, 181205, 415119
Abstract:
The present invention is a system and method to significantly reduce noise associated with air-moving devices such as an axial flow fan using a fan shroud and barrel combination with built in silencers such as Helmholtz resonators. The invention can be applied to a variety of applications such as a thermal management system for a fuel cell powered vehicle. The resonator can be a hollow cavity in networks attached to an outer or inner barrel or shroud and tuned to reduce noise at predetermined noise frequency ranges within the airflow. The invention can also attach stator members on the inner surface of the outer barrel to further reduce noise. Additional sound absorbing material, such as steel wool, can be disposed within the resonator cavity.

Climate Control System Having Noise Reduction Door

Prakash Thawani - Bloomfield Hills MI, US
Assignee:
Ford Motor Company - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
F24F 7/00
US Classification:
454139, 454143, 454145
Abstract:
A HVAC system for reducing the level of air rush and blower noise escaping into the interior of the vehicle when the HVAC system is operating in the recirculation mode. The HVAC system includes a recirculation door having an acoustically transparent portion that enables a component of the air rush and blower noise to pass through the recirculation door to the vehicle exterior instead of entering the vehicle cabin or interior through the recirculation air inlet.

Door Assembly For Climate Control System

View page
US Patent:
8029344, Oct 4, 2011
Filed:
Nov 29, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/564734
Inventors:
Prakash Thawani - Bloomfield Hills MI, US
Zhengyu Liu - Novi MI, US
Assignee:
Ford Motor Company - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
B60S 1/54
B60H 1/00
US Classification:
454121, 454126, 165 41
Abstract:
A motor vehicle climate control system that utilizes a door to selectively open and close an inlet formed in a housing of the climate control system. The housing includes a wall having a seal surface. The seal surface is spaced outwardly from an inner surface of the wall. A seal member, typically attached to the door used to open and close the inlet, contacts the seal surface when the door is placed in a position to close the inlet.

US Patent:
8384528, Feb 26, 2013
Filed:
Jan 22, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/625485
Inventors:
Mark W. McCarthy - Ann Arbor MI, US
Mark L. Clapper - Ann Arbor MI, US
Lloyd Bozzi - Saline MI, US
Prakash Thawani - Bloomfield Hills MI, US
Raymond L. Coppiellie - Canton MI, US
Assignee:
Ford Global Technologies - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
G08B 3/10
US Classification:
3403843, 381 714, 381 715, 381 86, 12318421, 12318457
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for customizing the sound emitted from an automotive vehicle during operation. Specifically, the vehicle operator uses a controller to vary the sound emitted from the engine exhaust and intake or engine compartment sounds during vehicle operation. In addition, the operator can control the sound level, sound type and sound aspect in the vehicle interior or passenger compartment and the vehicle exterior. Further, the apparatus uses an active sound control system, such as those using microphones and speakers, to customize and/or tune the sound emanating from the vehicle.

Air Distribution System Having A Noise Reduction Feature For Use With An Automotive Vehicle

View page
US Patent:
20070281600, Dec 6, 2007
Filed:
May 31, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/443967
Inventors:
Prakash Thawani - Bloomfield Hills MI, US
Jerry Sydlowski - Plymouth MI, US
Zhengyu Liu - Novi MI, US
International Classification:
B60H 3/00
F24F 13/24
F25D 19/00
US Classification:
454148, 62296, 165 42, 454262
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for reducing noise levels occurring at a particular frequency in an air distribution apparatus used with an automotive vehicle having an interior compartment. The apparatus includes a noise reduction structure located in the air duct between an inlet end connected to a housing and a discharge end located in the vehicle interior compartment. The noise reduction structure is located a position spaced between the housing and the interior compartment of the automotive vehicle. The particular position of the noise reduction structure is determined based on the frequency of the noise level sought to be reduced. The method includes measuring the frequency of the noise level emitted from the discharge end of the air duct and correspondingly positioning the noise reduction structure at a spacing or distance based on the measured frequency.

Blower Motor Cooling Tube Noise Suppressor For Ticking/Chirping
