Methods And Apparatus To Monitor Border Gateway Protocol Sessions

View page
US Patent:
20100080115, Apr 1, 2010
Filed:
Oct 27, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/258855
Inventors:
Paritosh Bajpay - Edison NJ, US
Peter Wanda - Orlando FL, US
Ken Yeh - Parsippany NJ, US
Carolyn V. Bekampis - Wayside NJ, US
International Classification:
G08C 15/00
US Classification:
370216, 340540
Abstract:
Example methods and apparatus to monitor border gateway protocol sessions are disclosed. A disclosed example method includes detecting a failure of a first border gateway protocol (BGP) session and initiating a session-down timer in response to detecting the failure. The example method also includes generating a sustained-down alarm when a threshold time value of the session-down timer is exceeded before the first BGP session is re-established.

Method And Apparatus For Managing A Slow Response On A Network

US Patent:
20100265832, Oct 21, 2010
Filed:
Apr 16, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/424910
Inventors:
PARITOSH BAJPAY - Edison NJ, US
Chee Ching - Holmdel NJ, US
Scott Corbin - Lewisville TX, US
Luis Figueroa - Spotswood NJ, US
Paul D. Gilbert - McKinney TX, US
Monowar Hossain - Middletown NJ, US
Thiru Ilango - Holmdel NJ, US
David H. Lu - Morganville NJ, US
Peter R. Wanda - Orlando FL, US
International Classification:
H04J 1/16
US Classification:
370250
Abstract:
A method and an apparatus for detection and prevention of a slow response on a network are disclosed. For example, the method selects a router automatically for testing in response to a ticket indicating a slow response, and performs a diagnostic test on the router, wherein the diagnostic test comprises at least one of: a protocol diagnostic test, a circuit diagnostic test or, a congestion diagnostic test. The method then performs at least one remedial step to address a root cause that is identified by the diagnostic test, wherein the root cause is associated with the slow response.

Methods And Apparatus To Monitor Border Gateway Protocol Sessions

View page
US Patent:
20120213091, Aug 23, 2012
Filed:
Apr 30, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/459611
Inventors:
Paritosh Bajpay - Edison NJ, US
Peter Wanda - Orlando FL, US
Ken Yeh - Parsippany NJ, US
Carolyn V. Bekampis - Wayside NJ, US
International Classification:
H04L 12/26
US Classification:
370242
Abstract:
Example methods and apparatus to monitor border gateway protocol sessions are disclosed. A disclosed example method includes detecting a failure of a first BGP session, initiating a sustained-down timer and a reset-timer in response to detecting the failure, identifying a sustained-down condition in response to the sustained-down timer exceeding a first time threshold, identifying a flapping condition in response to counting a threshold number of BGP failures and corresponding BGP re-establishments during a second time threshold of the reset-timer, and identifying a continuous flapping condition in response to detecting the flapping condition consecutively for a threshold number of instances.
