B32B 7/12
B32B 7/023
B32B 27/20
B32B 37/12
B32B 37/20
B32B 38/00
Abstract:
This disclosure describes a composition that includes a bulk diffuser that includes a film having a major surface; the film includes a polymer, and a scattering element. The scattering element includes a silicone bead having a mean particle diameter in a range of 2 micrometers (μm) to 9 μm. The linear density of the film is at least 5.1 W*μm, wherein the linear density equals the product of the mass fraction of the silicone bead (W) and film thickness in micrometers (μm). This disclosure further describes methods of making the film and the bulk diffuser and methods of using the film including, for example, as a bulk diffuser in a sign box.

Microstructured Release Liners For Selective Transfer Of Ink To Film

View page
US Patent:
20210222033, Jul 22, 2021
Filed:
Jun 6, 2019
Appl. No.:
15/734349
Inventors:
- St. Paul MN, US
Patrick J. Yeshe - Woodbury MN, US
Matthew S. Stay - Bloomington MN, US
Matthew R. D. Smith - Woodbury MN, US
Anish Kurian - Woodbury MN, US
Ross E. Behling - Woodbury MN, US
International Classification:
C09J 7/40
C09J 7/38
Abstract:
Modified adhesive layers are prepared by contacting an adhesive layer to a modified microstructured release liner. The modified release liner has a release layer surface with a set of microstructured depressions and a discontinuous pattern of ink material located on the surface of the release layer. A portion of the discontinuous pattern of ink material overlaps with and is located within some of the depressions. The ink material comprises a non-adhesive but adhesively transferrable material, or an adhesive material. Upon removal of the adhesive from the release liner, the ink material transfers to the adhesive surface.

Method Of Making Web With Partially Embedded Fibers

View page
US Patent:
20180215109, Aug 2, 2018
Filed:
Jun 29, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/748345
Inventors:
- St. Paul MN, US
Michael R. Kesti - Minneapolis MN, US
Frank T. Sher - St. Paul MN, US
Dawud H. Tan - Lakeland MN, US
Patrick J. Yeshe - Woodbury MN, US
International Classification:
B29C 70/50
C09J 7/38
C09J 7/40
Abstract:
A method of making an adhesive backed web, wherein the adhesive layer of such web has partially embedded filaments projecting therefrom. The filaments may comprise a thermoplastic material or a hot melt adhesive. The filaments are contacted to a major surface of a liner material then pressed partially thereinto. An adhesive layer, as from an adhesive backed film, is then laminated to the filament-containing liner, allowing the adhesive layer to pick up the filaments.

Filed:
Oct 9, 2014
Appl. No.:
15/030918
Inventors:
- Saint Paul MN, US
Mitchell A. F. Johnson - Maplewood MN, US
Steven J. McMan - Stillwater MN, US
Frank T. Sher - St. Paul MN, US

Assignee:
3M INNOVATIVE PROPERTIES COMPANY - St. Paul MN
International Classification:
C09J 7/02
Abstract:
A system and a method for making a web having a complex topography. A substrate having coatable material is contacted by a face-side roller having grooves set into the major surface thereof, the coatable material is then split between the face side roller and the substrate, resulting in a textured surface having a first area associated with the splitting from the major surface, and a second area resulting from splitting associated with areas of the face-side roller having grooves. Raised ridge features produced from the splitting step interconnect portions within the first area, and portions within the second area, and in between the first and second area.
