Filed:
Jan 27, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/360130
Inventors:
Paul J. Ridenour - Waukesha WI, US
Neil B. Stremmel - Grand Prairie TX, US
Bill Monce - Wheaton IL, US
James E. Jaryszak - Mansfield TX, US
Assignee:
United States Bowling Congress, Inc. - Arlington TX
International Classification:
G01L 5/00
A63B 69/00
A63D 5/00
US Classification:
702139, 434249, 473 55
Abstract:
Systems and methods for measuring and analyzing the pressure distribution on the foot of a bowler. Methods are taught for analyzing a bowler's performance. In some embodiments, the bowler performs a plurality of bowling motions. The distribution of pressure exerted on the foot are measured and recorded at regular time intervals. The bowler's performance is evaluated based upon the recorded pressure distributions. Methods are also taught for using recorded foot pressure distribution data to fit a bowler with proper footwear.

US Patent:
8088017, Jan 3, 2012
Filed:

A63D 5/00
A63D 5/02
A63D 3/02
A63B 37/00
A63B 43/00
A63B 69/00
US Classification:
473 58, 473 54, 473 55, 473106, 473107, 473109, 473125, 434249
Abstract:
A system and method for graphically and statistically analyzing and predicting the motion of a bowling ball. In one embodiment, the system includes an automatic precision ball thrower, a computer aided tracking system (“C. A. T. S. ”), and a computing device. Certain static properties of the bowling ball are recorded as independent variables. The automatic precision ball thrower is used to throw the bowling ball down the lane a number of times and the C. A. T. S. records various dynamic characteristics of its path. This data is received by the computing device which uses it to calculate a plurality of dependent variables associated with the path of the bowling ball. The computing device relates the independent variables to the dependent variables using multivariable regression analysis, yielding a set of equations which can be used to predict the dependent variables (or dynamic characteristics) of a second bowling ball given a set of independent variables (or static characteristics of the second bowling ball).

Analyzing Grip Pressure Of A Bowler

US Patent:
20090199636, Aug 13, 2009
Filed:
Jan 27, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/360155
Inventors:
Paul J. Ridenour - Waukesha WI, US
Neil B. Stremmel - Grand Prairie TX, US
Bill Monce - Wheaton IL, US
James E. Jaryszak - Mansfield TX, US
Assignee:
UNITED STATES BOWLING CONGRESS, INC. - Arlington TX
International Classification:
A61B 5/22
G06F 15/00
US Classification:
7337902, 702138
Abstract:
Systems and methods for measuring and analyzing the grip of a bowler. In some embodiments, a bowling grip pressure device includes a glove configured to leave the second finger, the third finger, and the thumb substantially exposed. Pressure sensors are attached to the substantially exposed fingers. At least one pressure sensor is permanently affixed to the glove. Methods are taught for analyzing a bowler's performance. In some embodiments, the bowler performs a plurality of bowling motions. Pressures exerted on the second finger, the third finger, and the thumb are measured and recorded as a function of time. The bowler's performance is evaluated based upon the recorded pressures as a function of time. Methods are also taught for using recorded grip pressure data to fit a bowler with a proper bowling ball.

Analyzing A Motion Of A Bowler

US Patent:
20090270193, Oct 29, 2009
Filed:
Apr 24, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/108964
Inventors:
Neil B. Stremmel - Franklin WI, US
Robert V. Roloff - Mukwanago WI, US
Paul J. Ridenour - Waukesha WI, US
James E. Jaryszak - Sturtevant WI, US
Assignee:
UNITED STATES BOWLING CONGRESS - Greendale WI
International Classification:
A63D 5/04
G01L 5/00
G06F 19/00
US Classification:
473 55, 700 91, 738654
Abstract:
Systems and methods for analyzing a motion of a bowler. The system includes a plurality of cameras positioned around a capture volume. The capture volume includes a reference location. A plurality of markers is configured to be attached to the bowler and reflect light from the cameras. The cameras are configured to detect a first set of positions of the markers attached to the bowler. The markers are located within the capture volume. The cameras are also configured to transmit a first plurality of signals representative of the markers at the first set of positions. The cameras are configured to detect a second set of positions of the markers attached to the bowler. The markers are located within the capture volume. The cameras are also configured to transmit a second plurality of signals representative of the markers at the second set of positions. A computer system is configured to receive the first plurality of signals and the second plurality of signals related to the markers attached to the bowler, calculate a plurality of characteristics of the motion of the markers with respect to the reference location, and analyze the characteristics of the motion of the bowler to generate a quantitative description of the motion of the bowler. The quantitative description of the motion of the bowler is then correlated with a first result on a bowling lane.
