Abstract:
Disclosed is an ink composition suitable for ink jet printing comprising a luminescent compound, a solvent, and an energy active compound, and optionally a non-luminescent colorant. The energy active compound, when exposed to energy, generates one or more active species that can react with the luminescent compound to alter one or more of the characteristics of the luminescent compound. The luminescent compound can be colored or colorless. Also disclosed is a method for marking substrates comprising providing a mark comprising a luminescent compound and an energy active compound. Further disclosed is a jet ink composition suitable for printing on substrates authentication or security marks which can be rendered unreadable. The luminescence of the mark is quenched and the visible color is changed when irradiated with a light.

Industrial Thermal Inkjet Inks

View page
US Patent:
20220315795, Oct 6, 2022
Filed:
Apr 30, 2020
Appl. No.:
17/607160
Inventors:
- Wood Dale IL, US
Stormi Tindall - Joliet IL, US
Vanessa Demarco - Chicago IL, US
Michael Kozee - Wheaton IL, US
Linfang Zhu - Woodridge IL, US
International Classification:
C09D 171/10
C09D 11/328
C09D 11/36
C09D 175/04
Abstract:
The present invention is a thermal inkjet ink that provides good reliability at a wide range of industrial print conditions from both low temperature to high temperature environments across a broad range of humidities. It is particularly advantageous in low-temperature applications, for example, printing at temperatures down to 5 C. or lower continuously for 8 hours without developing print defects which can lead to unreadable codes; and, in the meantime also maintains other critical functional aspects including contrast, wetting, decap time, dry time, adhesion, ink cartridge stability, etc. The inks contain one or more binder resins that exhibit a hydroxyl number or acid number of at least 100 mg KOH/g; one or more terpene phenolic resins; one or more volatile organic solvents; and one or more dyes, and optionally further components.
