Color Printer Halftoning Method And Apparatus

View page
US Patent:
6373594, Apr 16, 2002
Filed:
Dec 29, 1998
Appl. No.:
09/222038
Inventors:
Meng Yao - Tigard OR
Stephen M. Kroon - Sherwood OR
Assignee:
Xerox Corporation - Stamford CT
International Classification:
B41J 2205
US Classification:
358 19, 382237
Abstract:
A color printing system with a data storage medium containing a first data set corresponding to a first halftone screen having a first screen matrix of threshold values. The first screen matrix has screen locations corresponding to the matrix of image data elements, and each screen location has a threshold value selected from a range of threshold values. The data storage medium includes a second data set corresponding to an second halftone screen having a second screen matrix of threshold values, each inversely related to the corresponding threshold value of the first screen. The data storage medium includes a third data set corresponding to a third halftone screen having a third screen matrix of threshold values each based on a difference between the first screen value for the corresponding location and a preselected intermediate value in the range of threshold values.

Assignee:
Xerox Corporation - Stamford CT
International Classification:
H04N 1/40
US Classification:
358 314, 358 306
Abstract:
A method to compensate for dot placement errors includes receiving image data comprising a plurality of pixels, each having at least two states, a first corresponding to depositing no ink and a second corresponding to depositing ink; identifying a stray pixel pattern within the image data, the stray pixel pattern including a stray pixel corresponding to a misplaced dot in a dot pattern; and modifying the image data corresponding to the stray pixel pattern by setting the stray pixel to the first state and changing a second pixel from the first state to the second state.

Abstract:
A method of printing including replacing each of black dots of a first subset of black dots of a bit map for a predetermined area with a process black dot, adding a non-black dot to each of black dots of a second subset of black dots of the bit-mapped data, and printing the bit map.

Method For Enhanced Black In Draft Mode

View page
US Patent:
7199888, Apr 3, 2007
Filed:
Jun 25, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/892027
Inventors:
Mark R. Parker - Portland OR, US
Meng Yao - West Linn OR, US
Stephen M. Kroon - Sherwood OR, US
Assignee:
Xerox Corporation - Stamford CT
International Classification:
B41J 2/04
US Classification:
358 114, 358 18, 358 19, 382258, 106 3168, 106 319, 347 6, 347 7, 347 15, 347 21, 347 43
Abstract:
A method of improving black print quality in a color printer having at least one color ink and black ink includes determining a location on a substrate where a black pixel is to be printed, printing a droplet of color ink at the location, and printing a droplet of black ink with the color droplet. If the color printer includes cyan, magenta and yellow, then a droplet of cyan ink, magenta ink or yellow ink may be printed with the droplet of black ink. For images containing black at a plurality of locations, the cyan, magenta and yellow droplets may be equally distributed among the plurality of locations. Alternatively, the cyan, magenta and yellow droplets may be distributed in accordance with a digital halftone screen.
