Abstract:
Systems and methods for providing audio asset information using an audio asset information storage system are provided. The storage system includes a data store containing video program information associated with a video program that embeds the known audio asset. The storage system receives a number of requests to identify the known audio asset and stores an indication of each request within the data store. The storage system provides at least a portion of audio asset information associated with the known audio asset to user equipment.

Abstract:
Systems and methods for blocking inappropriate or undesired media content. Commercials are reviewed and assigned ratings or other attributes. Metadata including one or more flags identifying a commercial's rating or other attribute is embedded or inserted into media guidance application data for the commercial or for the media content during which the commercial is to be displayed. The media guidance application data is then sent to a viewer's equipment. The equipment receives the media guidance application data, parses the data for the metadata, and then determines if the commercial can be displayed based on parental control restrictions set by a user.

Systems and methods for automatically generating advertisements using a media guidance application are provided. In some embodiments, an advertisement database is searched to identify a stored advertisement for display in an advertisement display region of a media guidance application display screen. Abstract:
An apparatus for displaying a primary display and a window containing additional information is provided. The apparatus contains a display device, a displaying mechanism, and an exposing mechanism. The display device has a screen, and the displaying mechanism displays the primary display on the screen. Abstract:
The remote retrieval and viewing of information from a set-top box is described, wherein a network is used to facilitate the querying of the internal state of a set-top box. In response, the set-top box returns its internal state information across the network to the requesting user. In one embodiment, a GUI is used wherein a user inputs a unique identifier for the set-top box. The unique identifier is used to locate the set-top box on the network and to instruct it as to which internal state information is needed. In another embodiment, a web browser is used to implement the GUI as a web page. The GUI includes at least an area for the input of the set-top box's unique identifier.

Abstract:
A method for assigning attributes to media content. A media content is first displayed on a television, computer, or other display. A communication created by a user while viewing the media content is then received. The communication is then analyzed, and at least a portion of the communication is linked to a portion of the media content. The communication is also analyzed to identify relevant keywords which are then saved as attributes of the media content. The assigned word or phrase can be used to recommend the media content to other viewers or to find the media content in response to a search function. A method for synchronizing communications with time-shifted media content is also disclosed. A media content such as a television program is displayed during a time period other than its original broadcast time. Communications created by users while watching the media content are then received. The received communications are time-stamped so they can be synchronized with the run-time of the media content. The communications may be analyzed to select and display targeted advertising.
