Under-Ice Surveillance Buoy

View page
US Patent:
61341835, Oct 17, 2000
Filed:
Aug 1, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/566693
Inventors:
Bruce W. Travor - Holland PA
Roger A. Holler - Warminster PA
Donald H. Scott - Warminster PA
Martha E. Snyderwine - Holland PA
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy - Washington DC
International Classification:
H04B 159
US Classification:
367 4
Abstract:
An air-launched sonobuoy, particularly useful for under-ice surveillance, rries a descent-retardation parachute whose lanyards activate a surface float during descent. Upon impact into an ice region, a slip-rod is jarred loose from the cannister top thus freeing the surface float, and its RF antenna, to remain above the ice while the remainder of the components deploy.

Radial Damper Disk

View page
US Patent:
50974513, Mar 17, 1992
Filed:
Dec 20, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/633549
Inventors:
Martha E. Snyderwine - Holland PA
Saroja Mahadevan - Abington PA
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy - Washington DC
International Classification:
H04B 1700
US Classification:
367 4
Abstract:
A motion dampening device is described that is efficiently and conveniently ackaged with sonobuoy components to reduce the effects of vertical motion caused by surface waves or internal buoyant forces. A plurality of spring steel spokes connected by sections of thin plastic sheet are fitted around a central core around a first-deployed element. As this element is packed, prior to deployment, the spokes and plastic sheet are wrapped around the core. Upon deployment, the stored spring forces push open to their extended positions and spread the plastic sheet, thereby impeding vertical motion of the element and reducing effects of flow noise on a sensor hanging therefrom.

Stabilized Suspension For Immersible Apparatus

View page
US Patent:
48539007, Aug 1, 1989
Filed:
Oct 19, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/111844
Inventors:
Martha E. Snyderwine - Holland PA
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy - Washington DC
International Classification:
H04B 159
US Classification:
367 4
Abstract:
Motion of an instrument suspension cable assembly is attenuated in a liquid aving flow fields and surface swells. Strumming which causes vibratory motion is precluded by enclosing the cable assembly along the axis of suspension to isolate it from the flow fields. Motion along the axis of suspension due to the surface swells is substantially reduced by incorporating drag therealong on the cable assembly enclosure.
