US Patent:
6464667, Oct 15, 2002
Filed:
Jul 22, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/359232
Inventors:
Dean L. Kamen - Bedford NH
Charles M. Grinnell - Groton MA
Marc A. Mandro - Bow NH
Dennis Gilbreath - Concord NH
Kevin Grant - Manchester NH
Jason A. Demers - Manchester NH
William T. Larkins - Manchester NH
Robert Manning - Pembroke NH
Richard Lanigan - Concord NH
Assignee:
Deka Products Limited Partnership - Manchester NH
International Classification:
A61M 3700
US Classification:
604131, 604 82
Abstract:
A bedside-pharmacy system for the preparation and delivery of intravenous drugs. The system includes a liquid inlet for connection to a liquid supply, vial receptacles, and a liquid outlet for providing the intravenous drug in mixed, liquid form to the patient. The system may include a chamber having a variable volume, and a valve mechanism, which may be actuated to control flow between the liquid outlet, the variable-volume chamber, the vial receptacles and the liquid inlet. The system induces change in the volume of the variable-volume chamber and actuates the valve mechanism, so as to introduce liquid from the liquid inlet into the vials and reconstitute or dilute the drugs and so as to deliver the drugs to the patient. In a preferred embodiment, the liquid inlet, the vial receptacles, the variable-volume chamber, the liquid outlet and the valve mechanism (in other words, all components that come into contact with the liquid) are located in a disposable cassette, which may be received in a control unit. The system may include means for changing the chamber volume and actuating the valves so as to move the liquid repeatedly between a vial and the chamber.

Infusion Pump With An Electronically Loadable Drug Library And Label Reader

View page
US Patent:
7471994, Dec 30, 2008
Filed:
Jun 8, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/877404
Inventors:
Alan D. Ford - Concord NH, US
Nathaniel M. Sims - Wellesley Hills MA, US
Marc A. Mandro - Bow NH, US
Assignee:
The General Hospital Corporation - Boston MA
Baxter International Inc. - Deerfield IL
International Classification:

A61M 1/00
US Classification:
700282, 604151
Abstract:
A system for creating a customized drug library for an electronically loadable drug infusion pump, the system including a drug library containing a plurality of drug entries, there being associated with each drug entry a set of associated drug delivery parameters and/or drug delivery protocols for configuring the drug infusion pump; a tool for selecting a set of drug entries from among the plurality of drug entries in said drug library; a tool for adding the selected drug entries along with the sets of drug delivery information associated therewith to a customized library; and a loading tool for causing the system to electronically load the customized library into the drug infusion pump.

Optical Displacement Sensor For Infusion Devices

View page
US Patent:
7498563, Mar 3, 2009
Filed:
Jul 23, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/625792
Inventors:
Marc A. Mandro - Bow NH, US
Larry B. Gray - Merrimack NH, US
Assignee:
DEKA Products Limited Partnership - Manchester NH
International Classification:
G01D 5/34
A61M 37/00
US Classification:
25023113, 604131
Abstract:
An optical sensor for a delivery device having a piston that displaces a substance, such as a fluid, from a reservoir. The optical sensor has a light source and a detector array for imaging encoding features disposed along a plunger rod coupled to the piston. By virtue of the pattern of encoding features, an absolute position of the plunger rod relative to a fiducial position may be determined uniquely. Thus, the volume of fluid remaining in the reservoir, the rate of fluid delivery, and proper loading of the reservoir may be accurately ascertained. Additionally, the encoding may serve to uniquely identify a version of the reservoir which may be supplied in various versions corresponding, for example, to differing concentrations of a therapeutic agent to be dispensed.
