View page
US Patent:
20040211507, Oct 28, 2004
Filed:
Apr 24, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/422144
Inventors:
Lawrence Speer - Parks AZ, US
Assignee:
Leatherize, A Division of Longevity Corporation of America
International Classification:
B32B035/00
US Classification:
156/094000
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for repairing damaged vinyl or leather wherein polyurethane film covers the damaged area and is heated. Plastisol is inserted in the damaged area and a layer of grain paper is applied thereon. Heat is again applied at a temperature to sufficiently cure the plastisol but to not damage the material surrounding the damaged area.

Dashboard Repair Method

View page
US Patent:
46595252, Apr 21, 1987
Filed:
Nov 12, 1985
Appl. No.:
6/797047
Inventors:
Lawrence L. Speer - Medina OH
International Classification:
B32B 3500
US Classification:
264 36
Abstract:
A method for repairing damaged dashboards and similar articles is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of trimming away damaged material to form a repair area, substantially filling the repair area with an air drying repair compound, allowing said repair compound to air dry, adding a polyester resin to a plastisol material to produce a heat curable repair compound, applying the heat curable repair compound over the air drying repair compound and applying heat to the heat curable repair compound to cure it. The method produces a repair which closely matches the hardness of vinyl and similar plastic materials which are conventionally used to cover dashboards.

Method For Repairing Plastic-Like Materials

View page
US Patent:
41815475, Jan 1, 1980
Filed:
Dec 21, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/862921
Inventors:
Lawrence Speer - Brunswick OH
International Classification:
B32B 3500
B29C 2300
US Classification:
156 98
Abstract:
A plastic repair procedure employing a heat cured patching paste and the application of a controlled quantity of heat avoids the damage frequently caused by excessive application of heat during the requisite heating step. A special tool herein described employs a new heating principle for repairs of this type.

Multiple Filling Method Of Repairing Damaged Material

View page
US Patent:
45100012, Apr 9, 1985
Filed:
Sep 8, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/531174
Inventors:
Lawrence L. Speer - Barberton OH
International Classification:
B32B 3500
US Classification:
156 98
Abstract:
A vinyl repair compound and two step vinyl repair method provide an exceptionally strong and long wearing repair. The repair compound includes vinyl resins, a solvent, a plasticizer and silica filler, has a paste-like consistency and air dries. The repair process entails the following: trimming away the damaged material, placing backing material behind the damaged area if necessary, filling the repair area flush with the surface of the surrounding material with the repair compound and allowing it to air dry. Due to shrinkage of the compound as it dries, a depression is formed which is then filled with a conventional heat curable plastisol vinyl repair compound. If necessary, smooth or grained release paper is placed over the repair area, heat is applied to cure the plastisol compound and the repair is allowed to cool.

Wipe-On Clear Protectant Polyurethane Finish For Leather And Artificial Leather Articles

View page
US Patent:
56745583, Oct 7, 1997
Filed:
Sep 14, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/528046
Inventors:
Lawrence L. Speer - Phoenix AZ
Assignee:
Repair-It Industries, Inc. - Phoenix AZ
International Classification:
B32B 3500
US Classification:
427140
Abstract:
A wipe-on clear protectant based on polyurethane is provided, which provides a finish that is durable and long lasting, is not injurious to the leather or artificial leather on which it is applied, in the instance of use on vinyl, impedes, rather than fosters, plasticizer migration, and is not slippery or tacky to the touch. In the preferred composition, polyurethane is dissolved in isopropyl alcohol, and ethylene glycol monobutyl ether is added, and the resulting liquid is wiped as a clear liquid onto the surface of the cleaned and dry leather or artificial leather produce which is to be protected. The finish dries clear, even, waterproof, smooth and without tackiness in less than thirty minutes.

Brush-On Finish For Footwear And Similar Articles

View page
US Patent:
50615173, Oct 29, 1991
Filed:
Nov 22, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/440081
Inventors:
Lawrence L. Speer - Barberton OH
International Classification:
B32B 3500
US Classification:
427140
Abstract:
An item of footwear which has become scuffed or worn, or which is to be protected against wear, on its leather or leather-like external surfaces, is subjected to a preliminary cleaning. Thereafter, a coating of polyurethane elastomer dissolved in a solvent (preferably half toluene and half isopropyl alcohol), further including a colorant, a thickener and a gloss-lowering agent, is brushed or swabbed onto the surface. The solvent evaporates, leaving a thin, flexible, scuff-resistant coating the color of which covers and hides discoloration and scuffs on the original surface.
