Oxidation Of Ketones To Esters Using A Tin Substituted Zeolite Beta

View page
US Patent:
6344583, Feb 5, 2002
Filed:
Apr 25, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/557302
Inventors:
Avelino Corma Canos - Valencia, ES
Laszlo T. Nemeth - Palatine IL
Michael Renz - Valencia, ES
Jaime G. Moscoso - Mt. Prospect IL
Assignee:
UOP LLC - Des Plaines IL
International Classification:
C07C 6902
US Classification:
560231, 560102
Abstract:
Applicants have developed a process for the oxidation of ketones to esters. The process involves contacting the ketone with hydrogen peroxide and a catalyst at oxidation conditions. The catalyst is a molecular sieve represented by the empirical formula: where M is a trivalent metal such as aluminum or boron. These molecular sieves have a microporous three dimensional framework structure of at least SiO and SnO tetrahedral units, a crystallographically regular pore system and the characteristic x-ray diffraction pattern of zeolite beta.

Direct Carbonylation Of Paraffins Using Solid Strong Acid Catalyst

View page
US Patent:
6359179, Mar 19, 2002
Filed:
Dec 22, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/470631
Inventors:
Laszlo T. Nemeth - Palatine IL
Jeffrey C. Bricker - Buffalo Grove IL
Jules Rabo - Armonk NY
Ralph D. Gillespie - Gurnee IL
Assignee:
UOP LLC - Des Plaines IL
International Classification:
C07C 4549
US Classification:
568387, 568383, 568876, 568881, 568885, 568909
Abstract:
A process for the direct carbonylation of saturated hydrocarbons has been developed. The process involves contacting the saturated hydrocarbons, which contain at least one primary, secondary or tertiary carbon atom, with carbon monoxide in the presence of a solid strong acid catalyst to produce an oxygenated saturated hydrocarbon. In a specific embodiment isobutane is reacted with carbon monoxide using sulfated zirconia as the catalyst to produce methylisopropyl ketone. The oxygenated hydrocarbon can subsequently be hydrogenated to give a reduced oxygenated saturated hydrocarbon. The hydrogenation can also be done simultaneously with the carbonylation, i. e. , reductive carbonylation.

Liquid Phase Process For C8 Alkylaromatic Isomerization

View page
US Patent:
6872866, Mar 29, 2005
Filed:
Dec 15, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/736312
Inventors:
Laszlo T. Nemeth - Barrington IL, US
Gregory F. Maher - Aurora IL, US
Assignee:
UOP LLC - Des Plaines IL
International Classification:
C07C005/27
US Classification:
585481
Abstract:
A liquid or partially liquid phase process for isomerizing a non-equilibrium mixture of xylenes and ethylbenzene uses a zeolitic catalyst system preferably based on zeolite beta and on pentasil-type zeolite. The invention obtains an improved yield of para-xylene from the mixture relative to prior art processes in a more economical manner. A preferred beta zeolite is a surface-modified zeolite beta resulting from acid washing of a templated native zeolite at conditions insufficient to effect bulk dealumination. A preferred pentasil zeolite is a MTW-type with a silica-to-alumnina ratio between 20 and 45.

C01B 3/04
C01B 3/06
C01B 3/08
US Classification:
4236481, 4236582, 252373
Abstract:
A process and apparatus are disclosed for the generation of hydrogen from hydrogen rich compounds. The process uses hydrogen peroxide as an oxidizer with a hydrogen rich compound forming a mixture such that when the mixture is exposed to a catalyst forming a hydrogen rich gas.
