Reclosable Package With Slider Zipper Shielded For High Pressure Pasteurization

View page
US Patent:
7524110, Apr 28, 2009
Filed:
Apr 12, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/103751
Inventors:
David J. Anzini - Farmington NY, US
Steven Ausnit - New York NY, US
Michael J. Lasofsky - Pomona NY, US
Lars Wihlborg - Stratford CT, US
Per Bentsen - Suffern NY, US
Robert G. Kobetsky - Chicago IL, US
Assignee:
Illinois Tool Works Inc. - Glenview IL
International Classification:
B65D 33/14
B65D 33/16
B65D 33/00
US Classification:
383 5, 383 612, 383 64, 383204
Abstract:
The disclosure relates to a semi-soft cap or patch which is secured by adhesive to a slider on a zipper in a reclosable package. This cap or patch prevents the slider from puncturing the web or film of the bag during high pressure pasteurization. Further, the cap or patch is secured to a tear-away header which is formed as a shroud over the zipper. This allows the user to tear off the header which likewise removes the cap or patch from the slider. The header, with the cap or patch still attached thereto, can thereafter be disposed of as a single piece.

Methods Of Making Reclosable Packages For Vacuum, Pressure And/Or Liquid Containment

View page
US Patent:
7527585, May 5, 2009
Filed:
Oct 25, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/257682
Inventors:
David J. Anzini - Middletown NY, US
Rusty E. Koenigkramer - Nanuet NY, US
David J. Matthews - Gilman IL, US
Lars G. Wihlborg - Stratford CT, US
Glyn Russell - New City NY, US
Assignee:
Illinois Tool Works Inc. - Glenview IL
International Classification:
B31B 1/90
B65B 61/18
US Classification:
493214, 53412
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing flexible containers that are hermetically resealable. Each resealable container comprises a receptacle and a pair of plastic zipper strips. The zipper strips are flattened at the ends within the side seal regions and are joined to each other, without substantial deformation of the closure profiles, in respective transition areas substantially contiguous with the side seals. These transition areas of zipper strip joinder assist in providing a leakproof transition from the openable section of the zipper to the side seals, where the closure profiles are fused and flattened (i. e. , crushed).

Sleeve Cover For Slider

View page
US Patent:
8245365, Aug 21, 2012
Filed:
Dec 23, 2004
Appl. No.:
11/020607
Inventors:
Lars Wihlborg - Stratford CT, US
Assignee:
Illinois Tool Works Inc. - Glenview IL
International Classification:
A44B 19/26
US Classification:
24415
Abstract:
The disclosure pertains to a sleeve cover for a slider clip which is used for such applications as high pressure pasteurization wherein high pressure is applied to a reclosable bag, including a zipper and slider, which typically includes foodstuffs such as meat products. The sleeve cover is molded, glued or otherwise attached, to the slider to prevent the film of the bag from pressing against and entering the interstices between the slider and the zipper profile and subsequently deforming, pinching or rupturing.

Method For Applying Soft Cap To Slider Or Zipper With Mounted Slider

View page
US Patent:
20060277737, Dec 14, 2006
Filed:
Jun 8, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/147559
Inventors:
David Anzini - Farmington NY, US
Steven Ausnit - New York NY, US
Lars Wihlborg - Stratford CT, US
Per Bentsen - Suffern NY, US
Robert Kobetsky - Chicago IL, US
International Classification:
B21F 45/18
US Classification:
029409000, 029408000
Abstract:
The disclosure pertains to methods for inserting a soft cap onto a slider in order to protect the slider from damaging the package film of a reclosable bag during high pressure pasteurization. A first embodiment discloses manual or automated insertion of the soft cap onto the slider, prior to inserting the slider/cap assembly onto a length of zipper. A second embodiment discloses automated insertion of the soft cap onto a slider which is already mounted on a length of reclosable zipper. A third embodiment uses an insert molding process with a first mold cavity to form the slider and a second mold cavity to form the soft cap over the slider. A fourth embodiment uses a dual shot molding process in a single mold cavity to form both the slider and the soft cap thereover.

Slider Zipper Assembly And Shroud With High Pressure Pasteurization Protection System

US Patent:
20070004574, Jan 4, 2007
Filed:
Jul 1, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/173581
Inventors:
David Anzini - Farmington NY, US
Steven Ausnit - New York NY, US
Lars Wihlborg - Stratford CT, US
Per Bentsen - Suffern NY, US
Robert Kobetsky - Chicago IL, US
International Classification:
B31F 7/00
US Classification:
493325000
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to methods for forming reclosable bags with slider zippers which can be used in high pressure pasteurization. In particular, these methods form reclosable bags with a shroud formed over the slider zipper, with a patch or cap for protecting the slider during high pressure pasteurization. When the user tears the shroud from the bag, the patch or cap remains attached to the shroud but releases from the slider. An alternative embodiment forms an air pocket in the shroud to protect the slider.
