Cyclization Process Utilizing Copper Aluminum Borate As A Catalyst

View page
US Patent:
53328388, Jul 26, 1994
Filed:
Mar 29, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/174822
Inventors:
Patrick E. McMahon - Wheaton IL
Larry C. Satek - Wheaton IL
Assignee:
Amoco Corporation - Chicago IL
International Classification:
C07D20904
US Classification:
548508
Abstract:
The present invention is a cyclization process utilizing the catalyst copper aluminum borate which process comprises the step of contacting (1) a compound having a fragment in which a carbon-containing chain of at least three atoms in sequence is bonded at one end thereof to a nitrogen, oxygen, or sulfur atom, and at the opposite end to a carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, or sulfur atom, where the latter are bonded to at least one hydrogen atom; with (2) a catalyst comprising at least one member selected from the group consisting of copper aluminum borate and zero valent copper on a support comprising aluminum borate, under conditions sufficient to effect ring closure between the ends of the fragment to obtain a compound comprising a heterocyclic ring.

Abstract:
The preparation, structure, and properties of solid inorganic materials containing aluminum, boron, oxygen and at least one Group VIII metallo element, selected from the group consisting of cobalt and nickel is described. Also described in the use of such materials in catalytic compositions for the conversion of organic compounds. In particular, the new materials having the general formula: (x) (M. sub. m :M'. sub. n)O. (y)Al. sub. 2 O. sub. 3. (z)B. sub. 2 O. sub. 3 where M and M' are metallo elements selected from the group consisting of nickel and cobalt, m and n are numbers from 0 to 1 inclusive, such that m+n=1, and x, y and z are numbers representing molar amounts of the oxides are described as well as the use of such materials in various catalyzed processes including hydrogenation of hydrocarbons and oxygen containing hydrocarbons, dehydrogenation to functionalize alkylaromatic compounds, isomerization of alkylaromatic compounds, oligomerization of olefins, and oxidation of hydrocarbons and oxygen containing hydrocarbons.
