Wheelchair Exercise Apparatus

View page
US Patent:
6645127, Nov 11, 2003
Filed:
Apr 24, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/132892
Inventors:
Larry L. Pestes - Boring OR, 97009
International Classification:
A63B 6916
US Classification:
482 60, 482 51, 482904
Abstract:
An exercise apparatus for a wheelchair has a raised platform with an upper surface which will support a wheelchair. Front and rear rollers mounted rotatably on the platform project slightly above the platform upper surface to support the driving wheels of the wheelchair. One of the rollers is connected to a flywheel which provides momentum to even out the movement of the rollers and the driving wheels between strokes of the person driving the wheelchair. One or more attachment arms hold the wheelchair immovably on the platform when the user is exercising. The arm is split into two arm sections which rotate relative to one another through a third joint. The outer end of one of the arm sections is pivotally attached to the platform through a first joint and the outer end of the other arm section is pivotally attached to a clamp through a second joint. The clamp is configured to quickly and easily attach to the wheelchair frame. A clamp mechanism causes the first, second and third joints to be simultaneously locked immovably upon the activation of a single handle.

Wheelchair Exercise Apparatus

US Patent:
7874962, Jan 25, 2011
Filed:
Jul 15, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/460278
Inventors:
Larry Pestes - Boring OR, US
International Classification:
A63B 69/16
A63B 21/005
A63B 26/00
US Classification:
482 65, 482 51, 482903, 482904
Abstract:
A wheelchair exercise apparatus has a platform which will support a wheelchair. The platform has an elongate slot which the driving wheels of the wheelchair can drop slightly into. An elongate roller, having a central axis which is vertically below the center line of the slot, is movable between a lowered position where it is substantially below the upper surface of the platform and a raised position where it projects through the slot and extends partially above the upper surface of the platform. A locking system holds the wheelchair while the roller is being moved to its raised position and during the exercise period.

Swab Having Easily Displaceable Tip For Collecting A Saliva Sample And Inserting It Into A Collection Device, And Method Of Using Same

View page
US Patent:
20050010132, Jan 13, 2005
Filed:
Jul 8, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/615712
Inventors:
Dale Pestes - Gresham OR, US
Larry Pestes - Boring OR, US
International Classification:
A61B010/00
US Classification:
600572000
Abstract:
A swab for collecting specimens from patients has an elongate handle with an absorbent fabric swab tip at one end. The swab tip is releasably attached to the handle, and a sleeve, which slidably fits on the handle, can be pushed against the swab tip after a specimen has been collected to displace the swab tip from the handle and deposit it into a collection device.

US Patent:
20050010133, Jan 13, 2005
Filed:
Jul 22, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/898529
Inventors:
Larry Pestes - Boring OR, US
Dale Pestes - Gresham OR, US
International Classification:
A61B010/00
US Classification:
600572000
Abstract:
A specimen collection system includes a swab having an elongate handle with an absorbent fabric tip releasably attached to one end. A container has an opening, located at one end that the swab can be inserted into. A stop, which covers a portion of the opening, has a channel which receives the handle when the swab is placed in the container. The channel is sized to allow the handle to be pulled through it out of the container, but not allow the tip to pass. Thus,. the tip is displaced from the swab and drops into the container when the handle is pulled out of the container.

A fiber tip is mounted at the end of the probe to collect cell specimens.

Motorized Assist System For Wheelchair Exercise Apparatus

View page
US Patent:
20200009419, Jan 9, 2020
Filed:
Jul 2, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/460673
Inventors:
- Boring OR, US
Larry Pestes - Boring OR, US
International Classification:
A63B 22/20
A63B 22/00
A63B 71/00
Abstract:
Motorized assist systems are provided which are operable to assist in initiating and ceasing the rotation of rollers of wheelchair treadmill systems, and to provide resistance to user-applied forces to facilitate effective exercise. In some embodiments, the motorized assist system includes a driving motor mechanically connected to one or more rollers of a wheelchair treadmill and a sensor. The sensor is configured to detect a rotational force or a rotational velocity of the roller(s) of the wheelchair treadmill. The driving motor is configured to exert a driving force on the roller in response to a detected rotational force on the roller or in response to a detected rotational velocity of the roller.
