Pump And Electric Motor Protector

View page
US Patent:
48414042, Jun 20, 1989
Filed:
Oct 7, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/106048
Inventors:
William W. Marshall - Centerville OH
Lamar D. Springer - Spring Valley OH
Assignee:
Spring Valley Associates, Inc. - Dayton OH
International Classification:
H02H 500
US Classification:
361 30
Abstract:
An electrical circuit for providing electrical energy to an electric motor which operates a liquid pump. The motor and the pump are adapted to be submerged in the liquid which is pumped by the pump. The circuit disclosed herein senses the phase angle between the current and the voltage applied to the electric motor. When the phase angle indicates that the motor is operating without a load, the circuit deenergizes the electric motor. Thus, the motor and the liquid pump are protected against damage. Recognizing that harmonics may exist in the current flow through the motor, the circuit provides for obtaining a filtered signal proportional to the fundamental frequency of the current flowing through the motor. Thus, an accurate measurement of the loading of a motor is obtained. The circuitry of this invention also provides an accurate method of compensation for applied line voltage variations, so that a change in the applied line voltage does not produce a false indication that the motor loading has changed.

Water Pump Protector Unit

US Patent:
48856550, Dec 5, 1989
Filed:
Sep 13, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/243886
Inventors:
Lamar D. Springer - Dayton OH
Larry D. Springer - Dayton OH
Assignee:
Spring Valley Associates, Inc. - Dayton OH
International Classification:
H02H 709
US Classification:
361 30
Abstract:
A water pump protector unit which includes electrical circuitry through which an electric motor is energized. The pump protector unit is primarily adapted for operation of a capacitor-start induction-run electric motor which operates a water pump. The electrical circuitry includes components for energization and deenergization of the start winding of a capacitor-start induction-run electric motor. The electrical circuitry senses the phase angle between the voltage and the current applied to the electric motor. When the phase angle indicates that the electric motor is operating without a load, the circuitry deenergizes the electric motor. Thus, the water pump is protected against damage which may occur when the water pump is operated without pumping water. Preferably, all of the components of the water pump protector unit are housed within a single cabinet.

Electric Motor Control And Protective Assembly For Fluid Pump Operation

View page
US Patent:
49722891, Nov 20, 1990
Filed:
Jul 24, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/383601
Inventors:
Lamar D. Springer - Spring Valley OH
Assignee:
Spring Valley Associates - Dayton OH
International Classification:
H05K 700
US Classification:
361 23
Abstract:
A combination electric motor control and pump protective assembly in which a protective unit is readily inserted as a module into an existing motor control unit. The units which form the single combined assembly are electrically attached together by blade and socket members to which electrical devices are connected. Thus, a pump protective unit can be quickly and readily added to an existing motor control unit which is mounted upon support structure. Therefore, a motor control unit and a pump protective unit is quickly formed into a combined assembly upon existing support structure, without the mounting of an additional member upon support structure and without additional wiring.
