Spacer For The Shunt Wires Within A Circuit Breaker

View page
US Patent:
6801110, Oct 5, 2004
Filed:
Jun 3, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/161511
Inventors:
Kenneth Daniel Kolberg - McKees Rocks PA
Brian John Schaltenbrand - Cranberry Township PA
Ramon Javier Ojeda - Imperial PA
Ralph Mason Ennis - Imperial PA
Arthur Dale Carothers - Beaver Falls PA
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
H01H 7512
US Classification:
335 35, 335172, 335 6
Abstract:
A shunt wire spacer provides for proper spacing between the shunt wires extending from the movable arm to the bimetal within a circuit breaker, thereby ensuring that the shunt wires do not come together during over-current conditions within the circuit breaker, and preventing the shunt wires from interfering with the movement of the trip bar.

Crossbar Assist Mechanism And Electrical Switching Apparatus Employing The Same

View page
US Patent:
7238910, Jul 3, 2007
Filed:
May 15, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/434006
Inventors:
Michael P. Puskar - Carnegie Borough PA, US
Robert W. Mueller - Green Township PA, US
William E. Beatty - Beaver Brighton Township PA, US
Kenneth D. Kolberg - McKees Rocks PA, US
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
H01H 3/00
US Classification:
218154, 218153
Abstract:
A crossbar assist mechanism is for a circuit breaker including a housing, a movable contact, a stationary contact, and an operating mechanism. The operating mechanism includes a crossbar, a carrier coupled to the crossbar, and a movable contact arm which is pivotably cooperable with the carrier. The movable contact is disposed on the movable contact arm. The crossbar moves the carrier and the movable contact arm, thereby moving the movable contact into and out of electrical contact with the stationary contact. The crossbar assist mechanism includes an electrically conductive member electrically interconnecting the carrier and the movable contact arm to a load terminal. A spring disposed between the crossbar and the electrically conductive member biases the crossbar from a first position corresponding to the movable contact and the stationary contact being separated, toward a second position corresponding to the movable contact being in electrical contact with the stationary contact.

Apparatus And Method For Plugging A Tube

View page
US Patent:
48317039, May 23, 1989
Filed:
Jun 3, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/203650
Inventors:
John J. Wilhelm - New Kensington PA
Kenneth D. Kolberg - Monroeville PA
William G. Cole - Monroeville PA
Gregory L. Calhoun - Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County PA
Assignee:
Westinghouse Electric Corp. - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
B21D 5300
US Classification:
291574R
Abstract:
Both an apparatus and method for plugging a conduit, such as a tube in the tubesheet of a nuclear steam generator, is disclosed herein. The plugging apparatus generally comprises an inelastically expandable plug that contains a fluid-receiving cavity, and an expansion means including both a source of pressurized hydraulic fluid and a pull-rod member having a piston for advantageously applying both a radially expansive force and a compressive force to the plug at the same time in order to inelastically expand it into sealing engagement with the inner wall of a tube. In the apparatus of the invention, the compressive force exerted on the plug by the pull-rod member not only serves to inelastically deform the plug into a radially expanded shape, but is also used to seal the open end of the plug so that the pressurized hydraulic fluid admitted within the cavity of the plug will not escape. Both the apparatus and method of the invention are particularly well suited for installing plugs in tubes surrounded by relatively inelastic structures, such as tubesheets. Additionally, the invention conveniently and reliably plugs small diameter tubes in the peripheral regions of these tubesheets.

Spring Clip Assembly For Electrical Connections To Flat Stabs And Switches Incorporating The Same

View page
US Patent:
54930855, Feb 20, 1996
Filed:
Feb 17, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/389870
Inventors:
Kenneth D. Kolberg - Monroeville PA
David E. Little - South Beaver PA
David A. Parks - Economy Borough PA
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
H02B 104
US Classification:
200 51R
Abstract:
A terminal connection for a flat stab of an electrical switch includes a spring clip which retains a nut in alignment with an aperture in the flat stab. The spring clip is fabricated from a strip of resilient electrically conductive material and has a top wall with a central aperture, side walls extending downward from the top wall and having slots therein, an end wall extending downward from the top wall and a bottom wall cantilevered forward from the bottom of the end wall under the top wall and between the side walls. A square nut is retained in the spring clip with its tapped hole aligned with the aperture in the top wall and with either an aperture or a depression in the bottom wall. The fastener assembly clips onto the end of the flat stab with the stab between the nut and the top wall of the spring clip. A screw passed through the apertures in the top wall and the flat stab engages the nut to secure a conductor to the stab.

Circuit Breaker Slot Motor

View page
US Patent:
20140253264, Sep 11, 2014
Filed:
Mar 7, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/787898
Inventors:
- Cleveland OH, US
KENNETH D. KOLBERG - MCKEES ROCKS PA, US
BRIAN S. JANSTO - BEAVER FALLS PA, US
Assignee:
EATON CORPORATION - CLEVELAND OH
International Classification:
H01H 33/38
US Classification:
335 16
Abstract:
A two-piece slot motor housing assembly is provided. The slot motor housing assembly includes a first J-shaped body baying a lower, first end and a second, J-shaped body having a lower, first end. The first and second J-shaped bodies coupled to form a U-shaped assembly. The first J-shaped body first end overlaps the second J-shaped body first end.

Attachment Apparatus Usable In Circuit Interrupter Environment And Structured To Connect A Ring Terminal To The Circuit Interrupter

View page
US Patent:
20140110230, Apr 24, 2014
Filed:
Oct 19, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/655932
Inventors:
- Cleveland OH, US
Kenneth D. Kolberg - McKees Rocks PA, US
Assignee:
EATON CORPORATION - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
H01R 4/38
H01H 3/00
US Classification:
200237, 439815
Abstract:
An attachment apparatus is usable as a line terminal or load terminal of a circuit interrupter to enable a conductive element that includes a ring terminal to be electrically connected with a conductor of a circuit interrupter. The attachment apparatus employs a conventional lug which serves as a connector. The lug includes a threaded engagement element. The attachment apparatus further includes a connection element having a threaded receptacle that is structured to receive a shank of a threaded fastener. The shank is received through a hole formed in a ring terminal and is further threadably receivable in the receptacle of the connection apparatus to enable the ring terminal and a wire connected therewith to be reliably electrically connected with a line conductor or a load conductor of the circuit interrupter. The threaded shank can be unthreaded from the connection element to permit removal of the ring terminal and associated wire.
