Network Discovery And Data Transfer Using Snmp In An Electric Power Transmission Or Distribution System

View page
US Patent:
8565119, Oct 22, 2013
Filed:
Oct 13, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/578497
Inventors:
Jared P. August - Pullman WA, US
Kenneth J. Fodero - Pullman WA, US
Andrew Hilton - North Vancouver, CA
Assignee:
Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories Inc - Pullman WA
International Classification:
H04L 12/28
US Classification:
370254, 709220, 709223
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are systems and methods for performing network discovery and file transfer utilizing Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). According to one embodiment, a manager queries an agent device to obtain an agent device's neighbor address table comprising IP addresses of neighboring devices. IP addresses comprised in the agent device's neighbor address table may be added to a network inventory. The manager device may then iteratively query each device in the network inventory until each of the plurality of agent devices have been queried. According to one embodiment, a device may divide a data file into a plurality of sequenced partitions. A plurality of packets may be created containing the sequenced partitions. A receiving device may reconstruct the data file using the sequenced partitions.

System And Method For Transmitting Power System Data Over A Wide Area Network

View page
US Patent:
20060224336, Oct 5, 2006
Filed:
Apr 5, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/399285
Inventors:
Charles Petras - Pullman WA, US
James Anderson - Pullman WA, US
Armando Guzman-Casillas - Pullman WA, US
Ping Jiang - Pullman WA, US
Kenneth Fodero - Pullman WA, US
International Classification:
G01R 21/00
US Classification:
702062000
Abstract:
Provided is a system for transmitting synchronized phasors over a wide area network. The system generally includes a plurality of phasor measurement units (PMUs). Each of the PMUs are associated with a secured portion of a power system and measure power system data from the secured portion of the power system associated therewith. The power system data is associated with a time-element. A power system data concentrator is further provided in communication with the phasor measurement units such that it aggregates and time-correlates the power system data. A server is further provided in communication with the power system data concentrator. The server includes a program for transferring the aggregated time-correlated power system data from the secured portion of the power system to a non-secure network.

Filed:
Sep 19, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/533083
Inventors:
Demetrios Tziouvaras - Vacaville CA, US
Kenneth Fodero - Pullman WA, US
David Whitehead - Pullman WA, US
Tony Lee - Pullman WA, US
International Classification:
G01M 19/00
H02H 9/02
US Classification:
702122000, 307125000, 361093100
Abstract:
Provided is an intelligent electronic device for protection, monitoring, controlling, metering or automation of lines in an electrical power system is provided. The intelligent electronic device is adapted to communicate with a variety of other intelligent electronic devices. In one embodiment, the intelligent electronic device includes a communication configuration setting configured to allow communication with one of the other intelligent electronic devices. An input element is further provided in communication with the communication configuration setting, whereupon a signal from the input element selects a particular communication configuration setting therein, thereby allowing for communication with one of the other intelligent electronic devices.

Data Transfer Device For Use With An Intelligent Electronic Device (Ied)

US Patent:
20080091770, Apr 17, 2008
Filed:
Oct 12, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/548971
Inventors:
Charles E. Petras - Pullman WA, US
Barron E. Barnett - Pullman WA, US
Kenneth J. Fodero - Pullman WA, US
Assignee:
Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. - Pullman WA
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
US Classification:
709203
Abstract:
The data transfer device is a hand-held device which includes a communication port and a port for accepting a rewriteable, removable memory card. The device further includes a microcontroller with an operating system capable of executing a file stored on the removable member card. The removable memory card is capable of receiving an executable file with a plurality of preprogrammed data transfer functions as well as storing data for transfer between the device and an IED. Fault Tolerant Time Synchronization

View page
US Patent:
20100254225, Oct 7, 2010
Filed:
Apr 2, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/753698
Inventors:
Kenneth J. Fodero - Pullman WA, US
Veselin Skendzic - Pullman WA, US
David E. Whitehead - Pullman WA, US
Christopher Huntley - West Vancouver, CA
International Classification:
G04C 11/02
US Classification:
368 47
Abstract:
Systems and methods for distributing accurate time information to geographically separated communications devices are disclosed. Additionally, the desired systems and methods may adjust local time signals to compensate for measured signal drifts relative to more accurate time signals. Moreover, a system may determine a best available time signal based on a weighted average of available time signals or select a best available time signal based on weighted characteristics of various time signals. A system may be further configured to transmit time information embedded in an overhead portion of a SONET frame, including transmission of a standard or common time.
