Method And Apparatus For Providing Single Button Access To Oscilloscope Delay And Trigger Centric Horizontal Display Modes

View page
US Patent:
6380939, Apr 30, 2002
Filed:
Jun 25, 1998
Appl. No.:
09/106386
Inventors:
David P. Maguire - Beaverton OR
Kenneth P. Dobyns - Beaverton OR
Assignee:
Tektronix, Inc. - Beaverton OR
International Classification:
G09G 536
US Classification:
3454401, 345440, 324121 R
Abstract:
A system for displaying waveforms representing an input signal includes a display subsystem, coupled to a source of the input signal, for displaying a waveform representing the input signal in response to a display control signal. A trigger circuit is coupled to the input signal source and detects a trigger event. A time displacement circuit is coupled to the trigger circuit and generates a time displaced trigger signal a controllable amount of time after detection of the trigger event. A switch is coupled between the trigger circuit, the time displacement circuit, and the display subsystem. The switch selectively generates a display control signal in response to either the detected trigger event or a time displaced trigger signal.

Multi-Instrument Triggering

View page
US Patent:
7152006, Dec 19, 2006
Filed:
Nov 12, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/987868
Inventors:
Kenneth P. Dobyns - Beaverton OR, US
Assignee:
Tektronix, Inc. - Beaverton OR
International Classification:
G06F 3/01
US Classification:
702 66, 702 65, 702 69, 702188
Abstract:
A multi-instrument triggering system includes in each instrument trigger system a system ready line for coupling an internal ready signal to an external port. A multi-instrument trigger bus cable connects the external ports, trigger event outputs and trigger event inputs of multiple instruments together in such a way as to enable the trigger generators in the instruments when all instruments are ready to receive a trigger event. When enabled, a coordinated trigger is generated in response to an internal trigger event from at one of the instruments. The coordinated trigger is coupled via the multi-instrument trigger bus cable as the trigger event to trigger all instruments in synchronism.

Characterizing Newly Acquired Waveforms For Identification Of Waveform Anomalies

View page
US Patent:
7359810, Apr 15, 2008
Filed:
Mar 18, 2005
Appl. No.:
10/961445
Inventors:
Peter J. Letts - Beaverton OR, US
Kenneth P. Dobyns - Beaverton OR, US
Paul M. Gerlach - Beaverton OR, US
Kristie Veith - Portland OR, US
Assignee:
Tektronix, Inc. - Beaverton OR
International Classification:
G01R 13/00
US Classification:
702 66, 702 67, 702 68, 702 69, 702 70, 702 71, 3454401
Abstract:
A method of characterizing a newly acquired waveform with respect to previously acquired waveforms during monitoring of a generally repetitive signal, where the previously acquired waveforms have been rasterized into a two-dimensional array of memory locations, reads history values for those memory locations associated with an active portion of the newly acquired waveform, compares the history values with history value ranges, increments a count for one of a plurality of recent pixel counters corresponding to the history value ranges, each counter having a different history value range, and modifies the history values in the memory locations. From the counts accumulated for each of the history value ranges the variability of the newly acquired waveform from the generally repetitive signal is determined.

Compressed Logic Sample Storage

View page
US Patent:
7366628, Apr 29, 2008
Filed:
Nov 2, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/266105
Inventors:
Steven K. Sullivan - Beaverton OR, US
Kenneth P. Dobyns - Beaverton OR, US
Assignee:
Tektronix, Inc. - Beaverton OR
International Classification:
G06F 19/00
US Classification:
702108, 702 66
Abstract:
A test and measurement Instrument samples an input digital logic signal to produce logic samples, compresses the logic samples into compression codes, and stores the compression codes into acquisition memory. Compression includes parsing the logic samples into groups and assigning compression codes to those groups, and is performed so as not to lose information about the input digital logic signal's activity. The instrument converts the stored compression codes into a waveform image in display memory and displays the stored waveform image on a display device.

Host Controlled Voltage Input System For An Accessory Device

View page
US Patent:
7532492, May 12, 2009
Filed:
Dec 20, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/314357
Inventors:
Kenneth P. Dobyns - Beaverton OR, US
Michael J. Mende - Portland OR, US
Richard A. Van Epps - Vancouver WA, US
Michael D. Stevens - Hillsboro OR, US
Assignee:
Tektronix, Inc. - Beaverton OR

Abstract:
An accessory device voltage management system includes an accessory device selectively coupled to a host. The host provides a bulk power supply and a low power supply voltage to the accessory device. The host receives accessory device parameters from the device and determines if the accessory device is a valid and supported device and, if so, sends commands to the accessory device to couple the bulk power supply voltage to a power supply circuit in the accessory device. The power supply circuit in the accessory device generates at least a first regulated voltage output.
