Jun 12, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/138349
Inventors:
Xin Jin - Nepean, CA
Calin N. Bugnariu - Ottawa, CA
M. Khaledul Islam - Nepean, CA
Samir R Shah - Burnaby, CA
Stephen L. Pomeroy - Nepean, CA
Reguina Bouianovskaia - Nepean, CA
Junhong Nie - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
Research In Motion Limited - Waterloo
International Classification:
G01R 31/36
US Classification:
702 63
Abstract:
In accordance with the teachings described herein, systems and methods are provided for battery capacity estimation. A profile table may be used that relates a plurality of battery profile values with a plurality of operating parameter values. The profile table may be accessed to translate one or more measured operating parameters into one or more corresponding battery profile values. One or more of the battery profile values may be adjusted by a correction factor to generate a corrected battery profile value. The available capacity of the battery may be calculated using the corrected battery profile value. The correction factor may then be automatically calibrated by using an estimated battery profile value calculated from the one or more measured operating parameter.

Sep 8, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/518072
Inventors:
Junhong Nie - San Diego CA, US
Yuan Li - San Diego CA, US
Juncheng Liu - San Diego CA, US
Toshio Nagata - San Diego CA, US
Raied Salem - Spring Valley CA, US
International Classification:
H04B 7/00
H04B 1/00
US Classification:
455522000, 455069000
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to perform noise estimation for frequency-domain equalizers of high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) receivers are disclosed. An example method comprises measuring a total power associated with a code division multiple access (CDMA) signal received through a plurality of multipaths, measuring a plurality of channel responses for respective ones of the plurality of multipaths, measuring a plurality of noise plus inter-path interference powers for the respective ones of the plurality of multipaths, and estimating an additive noise power for the received CDMA signal based on the total power, the plurality of channel responses and the plurality of noise plus inter-path interference powers.

US Patent:
20110238344, Sep 29, 2011
Filed:
Jun 10, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/158097
Inventors:
Xin Jin - Nepean, CA
Calin N. Bugnariu - Ottawa, CA
M. Khaledul Islam - Kanata, CA
Samir R. Shah - Burnaby, CA
Stephen L. Pomeroy - Nepean, CA
Reguina Bouianovskaia - Nepean, CA
Junhong Nie - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
RESEARCH IN MOTION LIMITED - Waterloo
International Classification:
G01R 31/36
US Classification:
702 63
Abstract:
A method includes measuring an operating parameter of a battery of a mobile device. The measured operating parameter is translated into an equivalent series resistance (ESR) value. The ESR value is adjusted by a correction factor to generate a corrected ESR value. The capacity of the battery is determined based on the corrected ESR value. The correction factor is automatically calibrated based on the measured operating parameter.

High Performance Pim Cancellation With Feedback

View page
US Patent:
20170141807, May 18, 2017
Filed:
Nov 12, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/939183
Inventors:
- Plano TX, US
Junhong Nie - McKinney TX, US
International Classification:
H04B 1/40
H04L 5/14
H04B 1/525
H04B 1/12
H04B 1/10
Abstract:
A full-duplex transceiver with passive inter-modulation (PIM) cancellation using feedforward plus a feedback filtering structure is presented. The transceiver comprises a duplexer, a transmitter, a receiver, a summer, and a behavioral model module (BMM) that is used to generate an estimated inter-modulated signal using a feedforward plus feedback structure. The summer receives a receive signal output from the receiver and an estimated compensation signal, and outputs a PIM compensated receive signal based on the difference between the receive signal output and the estimated compensation signal. Further, the BMM receives the multiband transmit signal input and the PIM compensated receive signal, and tunes the transceiver to output the PIM compensated receive signal. The BMM generates the estimated compensation signal from an align term, lag terms, lead terms, and feedback of the transmitted signals. The embodiments disclosed herein can be applicable to communication networks experiencing PIM distortion in a radio frequency chain.
