Membrane Electrode Assembly Fabrication

View page
US Patent:
20110162784, Jul 7, 2011
Filed:
Dec 28, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/979523
Inventors:
Jeremy W. Dabel - Sacramento CA, US
Jerrold E. Franklin - Sacramento CA, US
Assignee:
ALTERGY SYSTEMS - Folsom CA
International Classification:
B32B 38/10
B32B 37/00
US Classification:
156182, 156263
Abstract:
A method for fabricating MEAs employing such gas diffusion layers and or gas diffusion electrodes that address the problems attendant to conventional methods. Due to the mechanically unstable nature of the electrolyte membrane material, it is advantageous to attach or bond the electrolyte membrane material to a supportive substrate before being sized for incorporation into a fuel cell. The GDL or GDE is used as the supportive substrate for the electrolyte membrane material.

US Patent:
20120214077, Aug 23, 2012
Filed:
Aug 2, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/196837
Inventors:
Glen A. Garrettson - Antelope CA, US
David Grupp - Sacramento CA, US
Jeremy Dabel - Sacramento CA, US
Assignee:
ALTERGY SYSTEMS - Folsom CA
International Classification:
H01M 8/04
H01M 8/10
H01M 8/24
US Classification:
429429, 429439, 429455
Abstract:
A PEM fuel system includes a fuel cell stack comprising one or more PEM fuel cells and fan configured to provide process air to supply oxidizer to and cool the fuel cell stack. The system has an air duct coupled to the fan and the fuel cell stack, and an electrical service load coupled to the fuel cell stack for receiving electrical power generated from reactions within the fuel cell stack. The system further includes as auxiliary electrical load coupled to the fuel cell stack and located within the air duct to reduce potentials across the fuel cell stack. The air duct is configured to direct the flow of air to the fuel cell stack and auxiliary electrical load to provide cooling air to the fuel cell stack and auxiliary electrical load.

Method To Actively Control Cell Pressure Drop During Operation

US Patent:
20180269505, Sep 20, 2018
Filed:
Mar 20, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/463861
Inventors:
- DETROIT MI, US
JEREMY W. DABEL - LAKE ORION MI, US
BALASUBRAMANIAN LAKSHMANAN - ROCHESTER HILLS MI, US
International Classification:
H01M 8/04746
Abstract:
A method for controlling a pressure drop across the anode side or the cathode side of a fuel cell stack by controlling the intrusion of a cell separator into the flow channels in a feeder region of the stack so as to create a larger pressure volume on a pressure bias side of the stack. The method controls the flow rates of one or both of the cathode and anode reactant gases so as to cause the cell separators in an inlet feeder region and/or an outlet feeder region to move relative to the anode side and the cathode side so as to change a flow volume in the inlet feeder region and/or the outlet feeder region to control the pressure drop.
