Filed:
Sep 8, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/223787
Inventors:
Leonard DeBenedictis - Palo Alto CA, US
John Black - San Mateo CA, US
Robert Sink - Mountain View CA, US
Kin Chan - San Jose CA, US
Thomas Myers - Palo Alto CA, US
George Frangineas - Fremont CA, US

International Classification:
A61B 18/18
US Classification:
607088000, 606010000, 606013000
Abstract:
A typical treatment system for use with tip embodiments includes an optical energy source, such as, for example, a laser. A set of tips may be interchangeably attached to the treatment system, for example to alter the system parameters and the treatment provided through the individual tips. Embodiments of the present invention include tips with a security chip and/or a memory. A security chip protects the treatment system from use with unauthorized tips, and the memory stores information about the tips and/or the treatment system to enhance the treatment

Two-Pivot Scanning For Laser Eye Surgery

View page
US Patent:
6488676, Dec 3, 2002
Filed:
Sep 24, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/405457
Inventors:
Herrmann Glockler - Cupertino CA
Henry Price - San Jose CA
Jeff Sobiech - San Jose CA
Assignee:
VISX, Incorporated - Santa Clara CA
International Classification:
A61B 1818
US Classification:
606 4, 606 5, 606 10, 606 13, 606 17, 606 18, 606 19, 356138
Abstract:
Laser eye surgery systems, methods, and devices makes use of a two-pivot scanning system for laterally deflecting the laser beam across the corneal surface to provide X-Y scanning. An imaging lens pivots about two eccentric axes extending along, but disposed beyond the laser beam. As the lens pivots, the beam will follow a substantially arc-shaped path. The eccentric axes are offset about the laser beam axis by about 90Â, and the system controller can compensate for the arc-shaped path deflections by adjusting the angular position of the imaging lens about complementary stage.
