Method Of Displaying Contours Of A Surface Of A Bearing

View page
US Patent:
7784195, Aug 31, 2010
Filed:
Feb 20, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/390140
Inventors:
Ihab M. Hanna - Lake Orion MI, US
Daniel L. O'Neil - Vassar MI, US
Jason J. Wiedyk - Grand Blanc MI, US
Aleksandar J. Filipovic - West Bloomfield MI, US
Shane E. Bremer - Hope MI, US
Assignee:
GM Global Technology Operations, Inc. - Detroit MI
International Classification:
G01B 5/20
US Classification:
33554, 33551
Abstract:
Contours of a surface of a bearing which extends about an axis are displayed on a grid. To visualize the contours, points on the surface are measured at a plurality of angular positions to determine the corresponding measured values. The measured values at each angular position are normalized to determine a normalized measurement datum corresponding to each angular position. The normalized measurement datum is subtracted from each of the measured values to determine a plurality of deviations of the corresponding points. Shades are assigned that correspond to a range of possible deviations. Each of the deviations are displayed as a data segment on a grid that represents the shape of the surface of the bearing. Each data segment is shaded on the grid to the corresponding shade to provide a topographical representation of the contours of the surface of the bearing.

Continuous Chatter Boundary Criteria For Manufactured Parts

View page
US Patent:
20070056372, Mar 15, 2007
Filed:
Mar 10, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/372918
Inventors:
Ihab Hanna - Lake Orion MI, US
Aleksandar Filipovic - West Bloomfield MI, US
Jason Wiedyk - Essexville MI, US
Bruce Tucker - Brighton MI, US
Shane Bremer - Hope MI, US
International Classification:
G01M 13/02
G01M 13/04
US Classification:
073593000, 073162000
Abstract:
A chatter boundary system includes a measuring module, a comparison module, and a boundary module. The measuring module measures and collects samples of undulations in a manufactured part. The comparison module classifies a sound signal generated by the undulations as either noisy or quiet. The boundary module determines a continuous boundary between the noisy and quiet undulations based on the samples and the sound signal.

Method And System For Forming A Workpiece

US Patent:
20080188161, Aug 7, 2008
Filed:
Feb 5, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/671008
Inventors:
SHANE E. BREMER - Hope MI, US
Ihab M. Hanna - Lake Orion MI, US
Jason J. Wiedyk - Essexville MI, US
Aleksandar J. Filipovic - West Bloomfield MI, US
Assignee:
GM Global Technology Operations, Inc. - Detroit MI
International Classification:
B24B 49/00
US Classification:
451 5, 451 1
Abstract:
A method for shaping a workpiece having a base portion using a tool is provided. The method includes rotating the tool at a fixed rotational speed in a first direction and rotating the workpiece in the first direction. The tool is positioned in contact with the workpiece at a first portion of the base portion of the workpiece. The workpiece is rotated at a first rotational speed when the tool contacts the first portion of the base portion of the workpiece. The workpiece is rotated at a second rotational speed when the tool contacts a second portion of the base portion of the workpiece. The first rotational speed and the second rotational speed are different.

Sliding Camshaft With Improved Compressive Residual Stress

US Patent:
20160348780, Dec 1, 2016
Filed:
May 26, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/721404
Inventors:
- Detroit MI, US
Jason J. Wiedyk - Grand Blanc MI, US
Assignee:
GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLC - Detroit MI
International Classification:
F16H 53/02
C23C 8/04
Abstract:
A sliding camshaft for shifting to a selected one of a plurality of selectable cam lobes includes an inner shaft and an outer shaft. The inner shaft has an external spline. The outer shaft has an inner surface, an outer surface, a coating, and an outer portion. The inner surface is subjectable to wear and is configured with an internal spline for transferring torque from and sliding axially on the external spline of the inner shaft. The outer surface is subjectable to wear and loading and is configured with the plurality of selectable cam lobes. The coating on the inner surface is for wear resistance. The outer portion is case hardened for wear resistance of the outer surface and to create a compressive residual stress in the outer portion for load carrying capability.
