Abstract:
A system and method of detecting radio network trends in a telecommunications network. A data mining tool ( ) is provided and adapted to search through the various operations and maintenance database systems belonging to one or more communications network(s) ( ). The data mining tool searches through the databases to find correlations and dependencies among the parameters of the data collected and stored in the database systems. The correlations and dependencies found are then reported for further analysis which can, in turn, be used in optimization, maintenance and trouble shooting of the network.

US Patent:
6594242, Jul 15, 2003
Filed:
Jan 14, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/231844
Inventors:
Jan L. Kransmo - Plano TX
Assignee:
Ericsson, Inc. - Richardson TX
International Classification:
H04Q 700
US Classification:
370331, 370335, 455437
Abstract:
A method, node and wireless communication terminal for providing handover and roaming from a 3G communication system to a 2G communication system. A dual-mode wireless terminal operating in a 3G communication system may obtain control channel information regarding a 2G communication system, and switch service as a function of the control channel information received. The method includes the step of providing control channel information for the 2G communication system over a downlink control channel of the 3G communication system to the wireless terminal. The node includes a means to communicate with the wireless communication terminal and a means providing control channel information of a second generation (2G) communication network over a downlink control channel at the 3G communication network. The wireless communication terminal includes a transceiver capable of communicating with a node of both a third generation (3G) wireless communication network and a second generation (2G) wireless communication network, and a control means coupled to the receiver for receiving and identifying control channel information indicative of the 2G communication network from a downlink control channel at the 3G communication network.

System, Method, And Apparatus For Cell Searching In A Next Generation Overlay Of A Preexisting Network

View page
US Patent:
6597911, Jul 22, 2003
Filed:
May 28, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/322365
Inventors:
Jan Kransmo - Plano TX
Assignee:
Ericsson Inc. - Research Triangle Park NC
International Classification:
H04Q 720
US Classification:
455436, 455443, 455444, 455437, 455438, 455449
Abstract:
A system, method, and apparatus for performing a handover for mobile station are presented. Where a mobile station in a preexisting cellular network approaches the service area of a next generation network, the serving base station transmits a cell neighbor list to the mobile station. The cell neighbor list includes nearby base stations within the preexisting cellular network as well as the next generation network. The mobile station can then measure the signal strength on the handover measurement channels of the cells in the next generation network. A method and associated apparatus for measuring the handover measurement channels of base stations in a next generation network using Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), are also presented.

Telecommunications System And Method For Load Sharing Within A Code Division Multiple Access 2000 Network

View page
US Patent:
6842619, Jan 11, 2005
Filed:
Jul 19, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/909192
Inventors:
Bo Lee - Plano TX, US
Jan Kransmo - Plano TX, US
Assignee:
Ericsson Inc. - Plano TX
International Classification:
H04Q 720
US Classification:
455453, 455436
Abstract:
A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for load sharing within a CDMA2000 network. The queue size of a sector (or cell) is compared with a predefined threshold. If the queue size exceeds the predefined threshold, one or more mobile terminals having their Data Rate Control (DRC) pointed towards that sector are selected to discontinue using that sector. The network transmits a message to the selected mobile terminals informing the selected mobile terminals that their DRC is no longer valid. In response, the selected mobile terminals stop pointing their DRC towards that sector, which results in an interruption of the selected mobile terminal's data sessions. To continue their data sessions, each of the selected mobile terminals may initiate a “virtual” handoff to another sector.

System And Method For Fast Cold Start Of A Gps Receiver In A Telecommunications Environment

US Patent:
7215967, May 8, 2007
Filed:
Dec 22, 1998
Appl. No.:
09/219199
Inventors:
Jan Lennart Kransmo - Plano TX, US
Christopher Hugh Kingdon - Garland TX, US
Leland Scott Bloebaum - Cary NC, US
Assignee:
Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ) - Stockholm
International Classification:
H04Q 7/20
US Classification:
4554562, 455 132, 4554561, 34235706
Abstract:
A telecommunications system and method for rapid start-up of a Global Position System (GPS) receiver integrated with a mobile terminal is disclosed. The location of a reference GPS receiver associated with a Base Transceiver Station (BTS) within the cell that the mobile terminal is currently located is used as the local position estimate for that mobile terminal. The GSM TDMA frame numbers are first correlated with the GPS clock signal. Optionally, this correlation is adjusted using the adaptive frame alignment mechanism. This local position estimate is used to ascertain the location of the GPS receiver. The correlation data is then sent to the GPS-capable mobile terminal through the Short Messaging Service (SMS) cell broadcast facility or the Broadcast Control Channel (BCCH) facility of the GSM network to enable the built-in GPS receiver to calculate its position relatively quickly.

System And Method For Provisioning Assistance Global Positioning System Information To A Mobile Station

US Patent:
20010014604, Aug 16, 2001
Filed:
Apr 20, 1998
Appl. No.:
09/063028
Inventors:
CHRISTOPHER H. KINGDON - GARLAND TX, US
BAGHER R. ZADEH - DALLAS TX, US
JAN LENNART KRANSMO - PLANO TX, US
International Classification:
H04Q007/20
US Classification:
455/427000, 455/429000, 455/012100
Abstract:
A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for provisioning assistance Global Position System (GPS) data to a GPS receiver within a mobile terminal. This can be accomplished by having multiple reference GPS receivers located throughout a cellular network, each reference GPS receiver being capable of providing locally valid lists of visible satellites and the associated ephemeris and clock correction information. The location of the Base Transceiver Station (BTS) within the cell that the mobile terminal with a built-in or attached GPS receiver is currently located in can be used as the local position estimate for that mobile terminal. From this local position estimate, the nearest reference GPS receiver can be ascertained and the relevant assistance data can then be sent to the GPS receiver within the mobile terminal through the cellular network to enable the built-in GPS receiver to calculate its position relatively quickly.

US Patent:
20030016639, Jan 23, 2003
Filed:
Jul 19, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/909190
Inventors:
Jan Kransmo - Plano TX, US
Bo Lee - Plano TX, US
Assignee:
Ericsson Inc.
International Classification:
H04B007/216
H04J003/24
H04L012/66
US Classification:
370/335000, 370/349000, 370/352000
Abstract:
A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for delivering a Short Message Service (SMS) message to a dual mode mobile terminal in data mode within a network capable of providing both voice services and data services. To receive the SMS message during a data session, the SMS message is encapsulated into an Internet Protocol (IP) packet and routed to the mobile terminal as an electronic mail (e-mail) message. In one embodiment, when the SMS message is received at the Mobile Services Switching Center (MSC) serving the mobile terminal, the MSC determines whether the mobile terminal is in data mode. If so, the MSC converts the SMS message into an email message and routes the e-mail message to the mobile terminal via the Packet Data Service Node (PDSN) serving the mobile terminal. In an alternative embodiment, the MSC routes the SMS message to the Base Station Controller (BSC) serving the mobile terminal. The BSC translates the SMS message into an e-mail message and transmits the e-mail message to the mobile terminal.
