US Patent:
20120057741, Mar 8, 2012
Filed:
Mar 1, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/037997
Inventors:
Jon D. Macklin - El Cajon CA, US
Jonathan P. Gluckman - Columbia MD, US
Igor Dorovskoy - Columbia MD, US
Assignee:
Cubic Corporation - San Diego CA
International Classification:
G06K 9/00
US Classification:
382100
Abstract:
Embodiments disclosed enable the detection of the presence of chemical, biological, and/or explosive (CBE) substance or other items of interest on individuals handling tickets, fobs, passes, smartcards, or other media. Embodiments generally contemplate issuing media at a first location and analyzing the media at a second location. Material sensitive to CBE substance can be applied to the media at the first and/or second location. An adhesive also may be used to attract and/or retain particles to the media for analysis and/or adhere the detection material to the media. Such embodiments can be utilized in airports, transit stations, and other applications where security against threats posed by CBE substance may be a concern.

US Patent:
20120184044, Jul 19, 2012
Filed:
Dec 30, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/649858
Inventors:
Aristotle G. KALIVRETENOS - Columbia MD, US
Kelly A. VAN HOUTEN - West Friendship MD, US
Jonathan P. GLUCKMAN - Arnold MD, US
Frank M. HARDY - Vienna VA, US
Igor P. DOROVSKOY - Columbia MD, US

Assignee:
RAPTOR DETECTION, INC. - Columbia MD
International Classification:
G01N 33/22
C08F 222/40
C08K 5/05
C08G 63/91
US Classification:
436106, 525418, 526262, 524379
Abstract:
A molecularly-imprinted polymeric material that selectively binds with an explosive compound. The molecularly-imprinted polymeric material comprises a cross-linked, water-soluble polymer having basic functional groups and a binding site capable of selectively binding an explosive compound. The basic functional groups have a pKa that is sufficiently high to react with the explosive compound to result in a visually detectable color change. For example, the basic functional groups may have a pKa in the range of 6.0-9.0. The molecularly-imprinted polymeric material may be used in a variety of applications, such as a projectile for detecting explosives. Also described is a method for making a molecularly-imprinted polymeric material.
