Wind Turbine Apparatus

View page
US Patent:
8358030, Jan 22, 2013
Filed:
Jan 19, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/353998
Inventors:
Robert M. Plaskove - Huntington NY, US
Courtlandt G. Miller - Palm Beach FL, US
Hamid Hefazi - Newport Coast CA, US
Hamid R. Rahai - Long Beach CA, US
Assignee:
Via Verde Limited - Dunleer
International Classification:
F03D 9/00
US Classification:
290 55, 290 54
Abstract:
A wind turbine apparatus including a shaft, two wind turbines, and a two-piece alternator. The turbines and the alternator are mounted on the shaft. The alternator is located between the turbines. The alternator includes a circular permanent magnet component fixed to the first turbine, and a circular electrical winding component fixed to the second turbine so that, when an effective wind blows in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the shaft, the first turbine and the circular magnet component will rotate around the shaft in a first direction and the second turbine and the circular winding component will rotate around the shaft in a second direction opposite the first direction, thereby generating electrical energy.

Vertical Axis Wind Turbine With Optimized Blade Profile

View page
US Patent:
20070104582, May 10, 2007
Filed:
Nov 4, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/267363
Inventors:
Hamid Rahai - Long Beach CA, US
Hamid Hefazi - Irvine CA, US
International Classification:
F03D 3/06
US Classification:
41619700A
Abstract:
A high efficiency vertical axis wind turbine includes an optimized blade shape for increased torque output. The shape of the optimized profile includes a camber portion at a leading edge region of the blade with a maximum height to chord ratio (Y/C) at when the non-dimensional chord length (X/C) is approximately one third. An intermediate region follows the leading edge region and is characterized by a shallow convex region, followed by a flow reattachment surface at the trailing edge region characterized by a second concave region and a local maximum of the height to chord ratio at approximately four fifths of the non-dimensional chord length.

System And Method For Reducing Nox Emissions Of Cargo Handling Equipment (Che)

View page
US Patent:
20210254586, Aug 19, 2021
Filed:
Feb 11, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/173791
Inventors:
Hamid Rahai - Long Beach CA, US
Jeremy Bonifacio - Huntington Beach CA, US
Shahab Taherian - Los Angeles CA, US
International Classification:
F02M 35/10
F02M 25/035
F02M 63/00
F01N 3/02
Abstract:
A humid air system (HAS) for reducing NOx emissions of an LPG-powered forklift and other heavy equipment is disclosed. A humid air system (HAS) uses distilled water and heat of exhaust to generate steam, injected at the intake air of the engine to increase humidity and reduce temperature and NOx emission. The system includes a pipe with a coiled-tube insert that is attached to the exhaust. A water pump connected to a solenoid valve supplies distilled water from a container to the exhaust coil, generating steam that is fed to a mixing box at the engine air intake in order to increase intake air humidity. A feedback control system controls the solenoid valve opening to adjust the water flow rate for maintaining humidity level between 90% to saturation.

Modified Airfoil For Horizontal-Axis Wind Turbine And Aircraft

View page
US Patent:
20200284151, Sep 10, 2020
Filed:
Mar 6, 2020
Appl. No.:
16/811984
Inventors:
Ranbir S. Sahni - Long Beach CA, US
Hamid R. Rahai - Long Beach CA, US
International Classification:
F01D 5/14
Abstract:
A horizontal axis wind turbine airfoil segment with vortex generator tape (“VGT”) tape applied downstream of the leading edge and within the boundary layer is disclosed. Placing the VGT tape at distance of 60% chord results in the boundary layer profiles displaying increased momentum near the edge of the boundary layer. Tests show that the contribution of vortices generated from VGT tape cause the increased momentum within the boundary layer. Moreover, a reduced skin friction coefficient is observed with the tape and the pressure coefficient on the suction side display reductions further downstream of the chord length. Using the total drag, the present invention has produces up to 8% reduction in in drag coefficient and about 2% increase in lift coefficient for the airfoils.
