US Patent:
20070024009, Feb 1, 2007
Filed:
Jul 29, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/193811
Inventors:
Gerald Rosenquist - Lake Zurich IL, US
Gary Bold - Chicago IL, US
International Classification:
F02F 11/00
US Classification:
277592000
Abstract:
The gasket assembly includes a gasket layer and a separately formed shim layer. The shim layer and gasket layer are formed with at least one media-conveying opening that correspond to media-conveying passages communicating between first and second members to be clamped together and sealed by the gasket at the joint between members. The shim layer has an adhesive layer applied to its back surface to enable the shim layer to be adhered to original clamping face of the one of the first or second members in order to build up the surface or to cover up damage on the clamping face that could impair proper sealing with the gasket.

Head Gasket Assembly For Very Closely Adjacent Cylinder Bores With Stabilized Armoring And Method Of Making Same

View page
US Patent:
58950575, Apr 20, 1999
Filed:
Mar 17, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/819214
Inventors:
Gerald A. Rosenquist - Lake Zurich IL
Assignee:
Fel-Pro Incorporated - Skokie IL
International Classification:
F16J 1508
F02F 1100
US Classification:
277598
Abstract:
A head gasket assembly for an engine with minimal space between adjacent cylinder bores. Armoring including a bridge between adjacent combustion openings is provided with the legs of the combustion openings enclosing wire rings and being welded to each other in the zone of adjacency. The wires are stabilized and maintained in permanent close adjacency.

Method And Gauge For Correctly Reassembling A V-Engine

View page
US Patent:
58013032, Sep 1, 1998
Filed:
Nov 15, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/749787
Inventors:
Gerald A. Rosenquist - Lake Zurich IL
Assignee:
Fel-Pro Incorporated - Skokie IL
International Classification:
G01M 1500
G01B 356
G01B 5224
US Classification:
73119R
Abstract:
A gauge and method for reestablishing the designed relationships between the block, heads and intake manifold of a V-engine after it has been disassembled for refinishing. The angular relationship between the surfaces of the heads is ascertained to determine if they are correctly oriented prior to final assembly with the intake manifold.

High Output Automotive Engine Gasket Assembly And Method Of Making Same

View page
US Patent:
54820146, Jan 9, 1996
Filed:
Jan 17, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/373560
Inventors:
Gerald A. Rosenquist - Lake Zurich IL
Arnold B. Fox - Deerfield IL
Assignee:
Fel-Pro Incorporated - Skokie IL
International Classification:
F16J 1512
US Classification:
1231933
Abstract:
An automotive head gasket assembly and shim for installation between the head and block of an engine is disclosed. The head gasket includes a main body of a first thickness having a central core and compressible composite facing layers laminated to the surface of the core. The main body defines a plurality of combustion openings. A fire ring is disposed and secured in each combustion opening. Each of the fire rings includes a generally U-shaped armor having a pair of legs overlying and underlying the main body adjacent a combustion opening and a central body connecting the legs and ensheathing a wire ring for providing a combustion seal. A shim is temporarily disposed on the gasket on one of the facing layers. The shim surrounds each of the combustion openings and defines openings thereat of a size greater than the size of the wire ring so that the wire ring is disposed to lie within the opening. The shim is adapted to be adhesively secured to one of the head and the block and to form a groove to resist blow-out of the gasket assembly and to enhance sealing.

Method Of Making Composite Gasket

US Patent:
44235445, Jan 3, 1984
Filed:
Nov 6, 1981
Appl. No.:
6/318947
Inventors:
Gerald E. Kashmerick - Lindenhurst IL
Gerald A. Rosenquist - Montgomery IL
Assignee:
Felt Products Mfg. Co. - Skokie IL
International Classification:
B23P 1506
US Classification:
295272
Abstract:
A method of making a composite gasket. A composite gasket is formed from an annular coiled strip of heat-resistant core material having a metallic tanged core and a facing layer, as of a mica-based material, integrated with the strip. The coil is placed in a first die and axially compressed under a relatively low pressure into a preform having a plurality of crevices in its face. The preform and a temperature-resistant sealing material, such as expanded graphite, are placed in a second die and the graphite and preform are axially compressed under high pressure to integrate the sealing material with the preform and to mechanically interlock the sealing material with crevices in the surface of the core material. The preform and sealing material are substantially deformed during the second axial compression to provide an improved composite gasket.

High Performance Automotive Engine Gasket And Method Of Sealing A High Performance Engine

View page
US Patent:
54109973, May 2, 1995
Filed:
Jan 3, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/176962
Inventors:
Gerald A. Rosenquist - Lake Zurich IL
Assignee:
Fel-Pro Incorporated - Skokie IL
International Classification:
F16J 1512
US Classification:
1231933
Abstract:
A method of sealing a high performance internal combustion engine with a head gasket having a fire ring comprising providing a groove in the head or block generally concentric with each said combustion opening, each groove having a land area and a generally vertical wall, and positioning the gasket on the block so that when the head is torqued down, each groove receives a fire ring and compresses the wire ring thereof to provide a primary seal therewith at the land area, the wall engages the armor of the fire ring to form a secondary seal, and the head and block clamping surfaces engages the armor to clamp the armor. The head gasket has a main body of a first thickness and defines a plurality of combustion openings. A fire ring is disposed and secured in each combustion opening, each fire ring comprising an armor ensheathing a wire ring for providing a combustion seal. The armor is of a second thickness substantially greater than the first thickness.
