Jonathan L. Miner - Rockford MI, US
George Moyher - Cedar Springs MI, US
Assignee:
BISSELL Homecare, Inc. - Grand Rapids MI
International Classification:
A47L 5/10
US Classification:
15390
Abstract:
A vacuum cleaner comprises a motor-driven rotatable agitator coupled with a shaft of the motor through a belt. A belt disengaging device for a vacuum cleaner comprises a pin that is movable through an arc of less than 180 between an engaged position and a disengaged position, at which the pin lifts the belt off the motor shaft. An actuator for the belt disengaging device includes a first exterior portion for user access and is moveable between a first and second position. A linkage pivotally connected to the actuator and the mechanically coupled to the pin moves the pin between the engaged and disengaged positions as the actuator moves between the first and second positions.

Handle System For Vacuum Cleaner

View page
US Patent:
55517315, Sep 3, 1996
Filed:
Oct 12, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/321511
Inventors:
Steven L. Gray - Johnson City TN
Peter Hoekstra - Bristol TN
Michael F. Martin - Bristol TN
George C. Moyher - Bluff City TN
Assignee:
Electrolux Corporation - Atlanta GA
International Classification:
A47L 932
US Classification:
285 7
Abstract:
In accordance with the present invention, a handle and wand system for a vacuum cleaner is provided which includes an enclosed electrical system which may be used to provide electrical power to a powered floor nozzle or other powered nozzles. The handle and wand system of the present invention may be employed in either a canister vacuum or a central vacuum unit. In another embodiment, means are provided for easily attaching, locking and detaching the components of the handle and wand system of the present invention while providing both a vacuum seal and a plurality of low resistance electrical contacts between the elements of the system of the present invention. In a further embodiment, a swivel elbow is provided to attach the handle and wand system of the present invention to a powered floor nozzle. In another embodiment, an interface is provided easily for attaching, locking and detaching the handle and wand system of the present invention to and from non-powered cleaning tools.

Electronic Vacuum Cleaner Control System

View page
US Patent:
55421466, Aug 6, 1996
Filed:
May 31, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/455983
Inventors:
Peter Hoekstra - Bristol TN
Timothy W. Jackson - Bristol VA
George C. Moyher - Bluff City TN
Odero Conci - Pascoe Vale, AU
Assignee:
Electrolux Corporation - Marietta GA
Newtronics Pty, Ltd. - North Melbourne
International Classification:
A47L 928
US Classification:
15319
Abstract:
An electronic control system for a vacuum cleaner is provided that supports two-way communications between a microcontroller in the handle of the vacuum cleaner and a suction motor and various sensors in the canister of the vacuum cleaner. The vacuum cleaner may be placed in one of two user-selectable bag change modes. In a maximum suction bag change mode, the electronic control system of vacuum cleaner will shut off the vacuum cleaner when the vacuum cleaner bag has filled and the suction power of the unit has been degraded as a result. If the maximum fill bag change mode is selected, the electronic control system will shut off the vacuum cleaner only after the bag has filled to the maximum extent allowable. The control system has indicator lights to display to the user whether the maximum suction or the maximum fill mode has been selected. The control system also has an optical dust sensor based on one-piece lens units located in the vacuum cleaner handle for monitoring the frequency with which dust particles flow into the vacuum cleaner.
