US Patent:
7113894, Sep 26, 2006
Filed:
Jul 22, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/161089
Inventors:
Michael R. Minogue - Milwaukee WI, US
Geoffrey S. Christanday - Milwaukee WI, US
Esmeraldo R. V. Davantes - Pewaukee WI, US
Winnie C. Durbin - Dousman WI, US
Kun Zhang - Waukesha WI, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G06F 15/00
US Classification:
702188, 713168
Abstract:
A system and method are provided to remotely activate options resident on a plurality of devices within a site. The invention includes generating a number of activation keys, each of which is specific to one of a plurality of in-field devices having inactive options resident in a memory of each of the plurality of in-field devices, and sending each representative activation key and a verification script to each of the in-field devices. The invention then includes receiving a report from each of the verification scripts and evaluating each report independently, whereby if the report is satisfactory for a corresponding in-field device, the respective activation key is installed in the corresponding in-field device to activate an option and if the report is not satisfactory for a corresponding in-field device, aborting activation of the option for the corresponding in-field device.

Abstract:
A system and method are provided that remotely grants limited access and permits use of resident software options in accordance with terms consistent with an access grant. The invention includes receiving an access request from a user to access a software option resident in memory of a device, determining whether to grant access in response to the request, and generating an electronic enabler in response to the access request that is transmitted from a centralized facility to a user of the remote device. The electronic enabler is configured to be input into the device whereupon activation of the option is achieved in accordance with terms of the access grant.

US Patent:
7634645, Dec 15, 2009
Filed:
Apr 13, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/681483
Inventors:
Kun Zhang - Waukesha WI, US
Karamjeet Singh - Germantown WI, US
William G. Blair - Waukesha WI, US
Winnie C. Durbin - Dousman WI, US
Michael R. Minogue - Milwaukee WI, US
Geoffrey S. Christanday - Milwaukee WI, US
Esmeraldo R. V. Davantes - Pewaukee WI, US
Assignee:
GE Medical Technology Services, Inc. - Pewaukee WI
International Classification:
G06F 9/00
US Classification:
713 1
Abstract:
A system and method are provided for requesting remotely enabled access to inactive software options resident on a device. A graphical user interface (GUI) is electronically linked to a centralized facility remotely located from the device. Option identifying parameters, such as a user ID, host ID, system ID, modality selection, and option selection are entered using the GUI and transmitted via an electronic request to the centralized facility. In response to the received request, the centralized facility generates a software key and transmits same to the device for activation of the option if approved by the centralized facility.

US Patent:
20050090731, Apr 28, 2005
Filed:
Oct 28, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/605803
Inventors:
Michael Minogue - Milwaukee WI, US
Geoffrey Christanday - Milwaukee WI, US
Esmeraldo Davantes - Pewaukee WI, US
Winnie Durbin - Dousman WI, US

International Classification:
H04L009/00
US Classification:
600407000, 709219000, 713200000
Abstract:
A system and method are provided to remotely activate options resident on a device includes generating an activation key configured to activate an option resident in a memory of an in-field device and selecting a verification script to at least confirm enableability of the option in the in-field device. The invention also includes sending the activation key and the verification script to the in-field device wherein the in-field device is capable of executing the verification script and receiving a report from the in-field device. If the report is satisfactory, the activation key is installed in the in-field device whereby the option is activated and if the report is not satisfactory, activation of the option is aborted.
