View page
US Patent:
6360518, Mar 26, 2002
Filed:
Mar 24, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/535360
Inventors:
Phillip R. Scott - Coarsegold CA, 93614
Franklin P. Orlando - Morgan Hill CA, 95037
Kevin M. Caine - Fresno CA, 93705
Marty D. Youman - Madera CA, 03638
International Classification:
A01D 4624
US Classification:
563281, 180435, 24274 WB, 24278
Abstract:
A harvester incorporating at least one force balanced shaker vibratory brush as the harvesting apparatus uses a sensing system connected to a plurality of spring feelers carried on a shaft to generate a torque value responsive to the location of the shape and position of a tree. The feeler springs may be of differing lengths to assist in tuning the harvester. Apparatus and a method for mounting the shaker head on the vehicle as well as system of steering the harvester are disclosed.

US Patent:
6624363, Sep 23, 2003
Filed:
Aug 2, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/922195
Inventors:
Franklin P. Orlando - Morgan Hill CA, 95037
Phillip Ray Scott - Coarse Gold CA, 93614
International Classification:
G01G 1908
US Classification:
177136, 177139, 563281
Abstract:
An improved gondola assembly for receiving harvested crops in the field from a crop harvester has a lightweight molded drop in tank held in place by a tank framework on the gondola assembly. The drop in tank lowers the gondola center of gravity as it replaces stainless steel or painted mild steel tanks and requires no periodic maintenance. A built in scale for continuous in the field monitoring of the weight of received harvested crop is constructed to be viewable by a tow tractor operator whether towed from one end of the gondola or the other. The towable gondola obtains power for operation of a pair of tank framework lift cylinders from the tow tractor so that the tank is movable between an elevated dump position and a lowered crop collection position. The gondola has a reversible towing tongue for towing in either direction so it may be configured to be towed on either side of a crop harvester.

Net Shaker Rotation Control System And Method

View page
US Patent:
20020073676, Jun 20, 2002
Filed:
Dec 19, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/741366
Inventors:
Franklin Orlando - Morgan Hill CA, US
Marty Youman - Madera CA, US
Assignee:
Ag-Right Enterprises
International Classification:
A01D046/00
US Classification:
056/340100
Abstract:
A net rotation speed control system for an oscillatory shaker head assembly driven by a force-balance drive carried on a crop harvester has a harvester forward velocity signal input. Also provided is an operator input for selecting appropriate speed relationship between the harvester velocity and the net shaker head rotation velocity. The system is useful as an open loop system, but is improved to correct for otherwise uncontrolled operating conditions by incorporating a speed sensor for net shaker head rotation velocity and closing the loop by connecting an output from the net rotation speed sensor to the control system.

Continuous Harvester For Plants Grown In Rows

View page
US Patent:
43366821, Jun 29, 1982
Filed:
Aug 15, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/178327
Inventors:
Franklin P. Orlando - Morgan Hill CA
Assignee:
FMC Corporation - Chicago IL
International Classification:
A01D 4626
US Classification:
56330
Abstract:
In a method of and apparatus for harvesting a row of grapevines, a pair of opposed parallel striker bars are pivoted back and forth transversely of the row of grapevines about an axis that is situated over the plants and that extends parallel to the direction of travel of the harvester. The front ends of the striker bars are supported by a front shaker frame, and the rear ends of the striker bars are supported by a rear shaker frame that is free to pivot independently of the front shaker frame. Dual-eccentric-weight oscillatory drives are mounted to the front and rear shaker frames. Various drive arrangements are disclosed for rotating the eccentric weights on the front and rear shaker frames at different frequencies, amplitudes or phase relationships, as desired. Due to the different motions of the front and rear ends of the opposed striker bars, the bars impart a varying shaking action on the grapevines as the bars are translated forwardly relative to the grapevines.
