Basal Screen For Enhancing Algal Biomass Growth

View page
US Patent:
20110073542, Mar 31, 2011
Filed:
Sep 28, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/892849
Inventors:
Walter H. Adey - Reedsville VA, US
Erik Thane Adey - Clear AK, US
Robinson Bazurto - Vero Beach FL, US
International Classification:
C02F 3/32
A01G 7/00
US Classification:
210602, 47 14
Abstract:
A three-dimensional grid for use as an algal turf growing surface contains a horizontal planar basal net containing a series of horizontal planar members and upwardly directed members.

Method And Apparatus For All-Terrain Large-Scale Production Of Algae

View page
US Patent:
20110119999, May 26, 2011
Filed:
Nov 19, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/950212
Inventors:
Erik T. Adey - Clear AK, US
Walter H. Adey - Reedville VA, US
International Classification:
A01G 1/00
B23P 17/04
US Classification:
47 14, 29428
Abstract:
A modular all-terrain algal production system that includes a plurality of segments. Each segment is made from one or more trays that are adapted to grow algae on their surface. The trays each have a flange end configured to be coupled to non-flanged end of an adjacent tray to form floways. Each floway has a rotatable surge bucket at one end that is able to hold water and spill the water in a wave down the floway into a catchment. The system is supported on uneven terrain by an adjustable structure arranged to provide each floway with a horizontal inclination.

Method And Apparatus For Injection Of Co2 Or Stack Gasses To Increase Algal Biomass Production

View page
US Patent:
20110129812, Jun 2, 2011
Filed:
Nov 19, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/950422
Inventors:
Walter H. Adey - Reedville VA, US
Erik T. Adey - Clear AK, US
International Classification:
C12Q 3/00
C12M 1/00
C12M 1/12
C12N 1/12
US Classification:
435 3, 4352891, 4352971, 4353051, 4352571
Abstract:
An algal production system that uses CO2 injections to promote the growth of algae. The system includes an algal growth medium within a floway for channeling water. A fluid diffuser also resides in the floway in proximity to the algal growth medium. The fluid diffuser injects CO2 into the water in the floway. The system further includes a detector for monitoring the pH levels of the water and a controller, which based on the measured pH levels, determines when and how much CO2 to inject into the water.

Method And Apparatus For Removal Of Algal Biomass From Large-Scale Algal Biomass Production Systems

View page
US Patent:
20110154792, Jun 30, 2011
Filed:
Nov 30, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/956520
Inventors:
Erik T. Adey - Clear AK, US
Walter H. Adey - Reedville VA, US
International Classification:
A01D 44/00
US Classification:
56 1, 56 8, 56 9
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for harvesting algal growth on an algal growth medium that is arranged within a floway containing water. A cable coupled to the algal growth medium is pulled by a pulling unit to draw the algal growth medium along the floway and past a vacuum positioned adjacent the algal growth medium. Suction from the vacuum is used to remove or harvest the algal growth on the algal growth medium.
