US Patent:
20030095418, May 22, 2003
Filed:
Nov 19, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/992320
Inventors:
Bruce Dalton - Cornish ME, US
Eric Shute - Buxton ME, US
Timothy Coste - Standish ME, US
Kristen Collins - Bridgeton ME, US
International Classification:
G02B006/10
F21V013/04
US Classification:
362/582000, 362/327000, 362/299000, 385/146000
Abstract:
A light pipe, including a transparent housing member characterized by a first refractive index, a light source positioned to shine a light beam through the transparent housing member, and at least one enclosed pocket positioned within the transparent member. The enclosed pocket is characterized by a second refractive index, wherein the first refractive index is substantially greater than the second refractive index. Light shining through the transparent member is totally internally reflected by the enclosed pocket.

US Patent:
20050039551, Feb 24, 2005
Filed:
Jul 26, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/898842
Inventors:
Eric Shute - Buxton ME, US
Kevin Damian - Buxton ME, US
International Classification:
F01P011/16
US Classification:
073866500, 165011100, 374145000
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods for providing assurance and evidence that the correct part has been installed. In one embodiment, the present invention relates to two housings that are attached to each other on opposite sides of a heat exchanger. When connected together, the apparatus completes the continuity in an electrical circuit path. In another embodiment, the present invention includes a method for attaching a sensor to a heat exchanger, such that the sensor cannot be removed from the heat exchanger without permanent deformation of a portion of the sensor. In yet another embodiment, the present invention relates to two housings, one having a projection and the other having a receptacle, which are mated together from opposite sides of a exchanger cooling fin.

US Patent:
20060288968, Dec 28, 2006
Filed:
Jun 27, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/119087
Inventors:
Kevin Damian - Buxton ME, US
Eric Shute - Buxton ME, US
Assignee:
Control Devices, Inc. - Standish ME
International Classification:
F01P 5/14
F01P 7/10
F28F 13/18
US Classification:
123041150, 123041490, 165133000
Abstract:
The present invention includes a system and method for providing assurance and evidence that a particular part has been installed and properly maintained. In particular, automotive sensing systems may be incorporated into two-part sensor assemblies that are disposable within a vehicle. The sensor assemblies are adapted to provide evidence of tampering via mechanical, electrical and temperature-based means. In a preferred embodiment, the sensor assembly is disposed about an automotive heat exchanger and a plurality of thermal sensors measure the temperature of the heat exchanger. Any alteration in the orientation or placement of the sensor assembly causes a variance between the temperatures measured by the thermal sensors, which in turn provides clear indication of tampering to the driver.
