One-Piece Connecting Or Fastening Apparatus Inexpensively And Simply Manufactured

View page
US Patent:
20070193007, Aug 23, 2007
Filed:
Jun 20, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/471452
Inventors:
Edward Otrusina - Bedford Park IL, US
International Classification:
A43C 11/00
A44B 1/04
US Classification:
024572100
Abstract:
A one-piece connecting apparatus that allows an object to be quickly and detachably interconnected and is inexpensive and simple to manufacture. The one-piece connecting apparatus is formed entirely of a single piece of material such as formed metal and provides reliable construction. The one-piece female connector structure is adapted for cooperation with an associated male connector structure for interconnecting objects. The female structure is formed from a single material and includes a member folded into separate planes. A first planar wall is interconnected and substantially parallel with a second planar wall, such that the first wall and the second wall respectively cooperate to define a receptacle therebetween. The first wall has an aperture therein communicating with the receptacle and extending to a peripheral edge of the first wall, and the first wall has an entrance that opens at its peripheral edge. A cam portion is formed with the member and extends into the receptacle, with the cam portion being laterally offset to one side of the aperture to inhibit movement out of the receptacle by the associated male connector structure.

Quick-Release Connector

US Patent:
53476930, Sep 20, 1994
Filed:
Jan 4, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/000198
Inventors:
Edward C. Otrusina - Willow Springs IL
International Classification:
A45F 500
US Classification:
24597
Abstract:
A quick-release connecting apparatus for detachably interconnecting two objects includes male and female structures respectively attachable to the objects. The female structure has a generally U-shaped receptacle formed therein which opens at a peripheral edge thereof, the male structure has a stud projecting therefrom with a part-circular head at its distal end with a straight side which is dimensioned to be received in the receptacle from its open end and being rotatable about the axis of the stud while disposed in the receptacle. A retaining prong is unitary with the female structure and is flexibly and resiliently movable between a locking position projecting into the entrance of the receptacle and a release position out of the entrance. The stud head moves the retaining member out of the way upon insertion into the receptacle to permit insertion in any orientation, but the retaining prong prevents removal of the head from the receptacle except when it is in a single orientation wherein the straight side faces the pawl. A flexible, resilient bias finger integral with the female structure projects into the receptacle for resilient engagement with the head to inhibit rotation thereof while in the receptacle.

US Patent:
52018580, Apr 13, 1993
Filed:
Aug 7, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/925862
Inventors:
Edward C. Otrusina - Willow Springs IL
International Classification:
A45F 500
US Classification:
24597
Abstract:
A quick-release connecting apparatus for detachably interconnecting two objects includes male and female members, respectively attachable to the objects. The female member has a generally U-shaped receptacle formed therein which opens at a peripheral edge thereof, and an aperture formed in the front surface of the female member which is aligned with but smaller than the receptacle and communicates therewith. The male member has a stud projection therefrom with a part-circular head at its distal end which is too large to pass through the aperture but is dimensioned to be received in the receptacle from its open end with the stud disposed through the aperture and is rotatable about the axis of the stud while disposed in the receptacle. A spring-biased pawl is mounted on the female member for movement between a locking position projecting into the entrance of the receptacle and a release position out of the entrance. The button moves the pawl out of the way upon insertion into the receptacle to permit insertion in any orientation, but the pawl prevents removal of the head from the receptacle except when it is in a single orientation wherein the straight side faces the pawl.

US Patent:
58391738, Nov 24, 1998
Filed:
Jul 17, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/895959
Inventors:
Edward C. Otrusina - Willow Springs IL
International Classification:
A44B 2100
A45F 500
US Classification:
24597
Abstract:
A connecting apparatus for detachably interconnecting two objects includes male and female structures respectively connectable to the objects. The female structure is of unitary, one-piece construction having parallel planar walls cooperating to define a receptacle therebetween, one wall having an aperture therein communicating with the receptacle and extending to a peripheral edge of the wall for opening thereat to define an entrance. An inclined flexible and resilient cam portion is laterally offset to one side of the entrance and is integral with the one wall and inclined out of the plane thereof toward the other wall. Male structure has a stud projecting therefrom with a part-circular head having a straight side and dimensioned to pass through the entrance so that, in one rotational orientation of the head, it will clear the cam portion to permit free passage into and out of the receptacle. In all other rotational orientations the head will engage the cam portion, flexing it to permit movement of the head into the receptacle, but wedging against it to inhibit movement out of the receptacle.

Quick-Release Connector With Teardrop-Shaped Configuration

View page
US Patent:
46053352, Aug 12, 1986
Filed:
Feb 28, 1985
Appl. No.:
6/706673
Inventors:
Edward C. Otrusina - Downers Grove IL
International Classification:
F16D 106
A45F 500
US Classification:
403348
Abstract:
Quick-release connecting apparatus for mounting an object on a belt includes male and female members, respectively attachable to the object and the belt. The male member has a stud projecting therefrom with a teardrop-shaped button or flange at its distal end which has the same configuration as a teardrop-shaped opening in the front surface of the female member, which opening communicates with a circular recess in the rear of the female member and larger than the opening. The button is insertable axially through the opening and into the recess, permitting rotation of the male member about 180. degree. to an attached position wherein the button engages the bearing surface at three spaced-apart locations. The stud has arcuate surfaces which can engage the edges of the opening when the male member is disposed in the recess for inhibiting translational movement of the male member except during insertion into and withdrawal from the opening.

US Patent:
50541706, Oct 8, 1991
Filed:
Mar 18, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/670727
Inventors:
Edward C. Otrusina - Willow Springs IL
International Classification:
A45F 500
US Classification:
24597
Abstract:
A quick-release connecting apparatus for mounting an object on a belt includes male and female members, respectively attachable to the object and the belt-mountable holder. The female member has a generally U-shaped receptacle formed therein which opens at a peripheral edge of the female member, and an aperture formed in the front surface of the female member which is aligned with but smaller than the receptacle and communicates therewith. The male member has a stud projecting therefrom with a circular button at its distal end which is too large to pass through the aperture but is dimensioned to be receivable in the receptacle from its open end with the stud disposed through the aperture and is rotabale about the axis of the stud while disposed in the receptacle. A yieldable detent projects from the female member into the entrance of the receptacle so as to be deflectable by the button to permit insertion thereof in any position into the receptacle. The button has a recess which receives the detent member to permit removal of the button from the receptacle in only one rotational orientation of the male member, while the detent member prevents removal of the button from the receptable in any other rotational orientation of the male member.
