Pre-Cast Curbside Access Ramp And Methods Of Making And Installing The Same

View page
US Patent:
6688805, Feb 10, 2004
Filed:
Jul 19, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/909442
Inventors:
Edmund T. Kochling - Charlton MA, 01507
International Classification:
E01C 1122
US Classification:
404 7, 404 9, 404 10
Abstract:
Pre-cast curbside access ramp and methods of making and installing the same. In a preferred embodiment, the pre-cast ramp is a quasi-trapezoidal member shaped to include an integrally formed curb portion, a trapezoidal central portion disposed behind the curb portion and a pair of generally triangular side portions disposed behind the curb portion and seamlessly transitioning from opposite sides of the central portion. The ramp is made using a forming apparatus comprising an inner form positioned within an outer form. The inner form, which is more shallow than the outer form, is filled with gravel. A steel grid is then positioned within the outer form and over the inner form. The outer form is then filled with concrete, which is then shaped, screeded, edged, grooved, troweled and allowed to harden within the outer form. When removed from the outer form, the bottom of the cast is provided with a weight-reducing recess. To install, a suitable length of curbing and walkway are removed, and the cast is set in the ground.

Adjustment Riser For A Manhole Frame

View page
US Patent:
6953302, Oct 11, 2005
Filed:
Jul 23, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/897928
Inventors:
Edmund T. Kochling - Charlton MA, US
International Classification:
E02D029/14
US Classification:
404 26, 52 20
Abstract:
An adjustment riser is disposed between a manhole and a frame embedded in the paved surface of a roadway. The adjustment riser includes an annular concrete base which includes substantially flat top and bottom surfaces. A ridge and a groove are formed on the top and bottom surfaces, respectively, of the base to facilitate in the stacking of multiple risers and to prevent water infiltration. The adjustment riser additionally includes a plurality of adjustable support assemblies for supporting the frame. Each support assembly includes a support which extends axially within a corresponding bore formed in the base. Each support includes an enlarged head shaped to support the frame, the vertical position of the head of the support relative to the top surface of the base being continuously adjustable. In this manner, the adjustable nature of each support enables riser to hold the frame in its proper orientation relative to the paved surface.

Socket Assembly For A Gate Valve Wrench

View page
US Patent:
7661338, Feb 16, 2010
Filed:
May 1, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/799708
Inventors:
Edmund T. Kochling - Charlton MA, US
International Classification:
B25B 13/06
B25B 13/00
US Classification:
811211, 811246
Abstract:
A socket assembly for a gate valve wrench includes a socket, a support member adapted to mount on the wrench and a fastener for connecting the socket to the support member in such a manner so as to retain the socket fixed in place on the gate valve wrench. The socket includes a cylindrical piece with an inner surface shaped to include twelve inwardly protruding ridges that together define an interior cavity. In use, the socket assembly can be used in conjunction with the wrench to turn a rounded gate valve operating nut. Specifically, with the socket assembly attached to the wrench, the socket is forcibly driven down over the rounded nut such that each ridge digs into the rounded nut. Firmly engaged by the socket, the rounded nut can then be operated using the wrench.

Watering Device And Method Of Using The Same

View page
US Patent:
20070193114, Aug 23, 2007
Filed:
Dec 7, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/635803
Inventors:
Edmund Kochling - Charlton MA, US
International Classification:
A01G 29/00
US Classification:
047048500
Abstract:
A watering device well-suited for use in watering soil that surrounds a plant includes an inlet adapted to receive a supply of water, an elongated length of rigid tubing shaped to define an outlet, the outlet being in fluid communication with the inlet, and a shut-off valve for regulating the flow of water from the inlet to the outlet. In use, the tubing is inserted deep into the layer of soil. The shut-off valve is then opened so that water is dispensed from the outlet, water being dispensed until the soil is thoroughly saturated with water. At that time, water present in the soil naturally drains downward which in turn results in substantial compaction of the soil. This process of compaction serves to eliminate the presence of any harmful air pockets in the soil.
