Acid Functional Phosphorus-Containing Polyester Powder Compositions And Powder Coatings Made Therefrom

View page
US Patent:
7638201, Dec 29, 2009
Filed:
May 2, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/799618
Inventors:
Douglas S. Cinoman - Douglassville PA, US
Andrew T. Daly - Sinking Spring PA, US
Gordon L. Tullos - Reading PA, US
Assignee:
Rohm and Haas Company - Philadelphia PA
International Classification:
C08G 63/692
US Classification:
428458, 525167, 525437, 524500, 524904, 428480
Abstract:
The present invention provides storage stable powder compositions comprising one or more carboxylic acid or anhydride functional, phosphorus-containing polyester chosen from aromatic polyesters having an acid number of 15 or higher mg KOH/g polyester, aliphatic polyesters having an acid number of 20 or higher mg KOH/g polyester. The acid functional, phosphorus-containing polyester comprises the reaction product of one or more polyacid, one or more phosphorus-containing acid or salt thereof and one or more polyol. Preferably, the one or more polyol reactant contains no β-hydrogen such as, for example, neopentyl glycol (NPG). The acid functional, phosphorus-containing polyester may comprise all or part of a binder powder composition, such as a coating powder, or it may comprise an additive thereto that imparts improved pigment wetting and corrosion resistance to a binder composition.

US Patent:
20130273364, Oct 17, 2013
Filed:
May 29, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/904059
Inventors:
- Amhem, NL
Douglas S. Cinoman - Douglassville PA, US
Paul R. Horinka - Blandon PA, US
Edward G. Nicholl - Reading PA, US
Assignee:
Akzo Nobel Coatings International B.V. - Amhem
International Classification:
C09D 163/00
F16F 1/02
US Classification:
428371, 523451
Abstract:
A powder composition including a resin and from 5% to 70%, by weight based on powder composition weight, of a corrosion-inhibiting pigment, optionally including from 0% to 65%, by weight based on powder composition weight, zinc, the composition being substantially free from pigment providing a metallic effect is provided. The corrosion-inhibiting pigment may be present in amounts of up to 50%, by weight based on powder composition weight, for example, up to 35%. A method for coating a substrate with the powder composition and the coated substrate so formed are also provided.

US Patent:
20160355626, Dec 8, 2016
Filed:
Feb 25, 2015
Appl. No.:
15/121681
Inventors:
- Arnhem, NL
Justin E. Wilhelm - Shillington PA, US
Douglas Samuel Cinoman - Goodyear AZ, US
International Classification:

Abstract:
An epoxy functional acrylic resin having a Tof greater than 85 C. and a calculated solubility parameter from about 9.20 to about 9.30 (cal/cm), powder coating compositions including the same and coated substrates coated with the powder coating composition is described. The resin includes, as copolymerized monomers, from about 10 wt. % to about 40 wt. % of one or more epoxy functional unsaturated monomers; from about 10 wt. % to about 20 wt. % of one or more hydrophobic acrylic monomers, and from greater than 50 wt. % to about 75 wt. % of at least one nonionic copolymer that is different from the hydrophobic acrylic monomers ii), each monomer wt. % based on the total weight of copolymerized monomers in the resin.
